Thats the third contract he has signed at the club, and he hasnt even been there for three years yet. Plus its probably for phenomenal wedge - £200,000 a week was bandied about yesterday - and no doubt contains clear and legally enforceable buyout clauses in case he wants to jump ship.

As for not being able to replace him - they could have in the summer, and they would have made £19 million profit whilst doing so.

Anyway, makes sense the more I think about it. He has already declared his wish to play in the CL. By signing a new contract now, Liverpool stave off advances from Real Madrid etc in January. I would imagine the release clause in this contract is somewhat less ambiguous than the last one, so when it gets to the summertime if Liverpool have somehow slipped out of the top 4 (unlikely the way things are going), they wave him off to The Bernabeu and he's doubled his money in the interim period.

If they stay in the top 4 (or, perish the thought, win the title *slight nausea there*), Liverpool are in with a chance of holding on to him.

hang on...his contract stays at 160k a week this season, so nothing has really changed...if they dont get top four he will be gone!

Know its been posted before but as they see one blue do something and genralise about us all, here's a room of those c.unts celebrating the Munich Tragedy, they have a sh.it load of lurkers on here.
