Having had this pointed out to me last night and having ventured over to RAWK to see what everyone was talking about, I've had a morbid fascinatingly with it today, not least because they think I'm one of the decent ones here (I told my red brother this earlier today and he pissed himself laughing).
Some observations:
1) They really, really do not like Heysel being brought up at all do they? I guess it's irrefutable evidence contrary to the "best fans in the world" line they trot out, so perhaps understandable. Seriously, I think a lot of younger blues use it as a stick to prod them with for no reason other than tribal rivalry, which is a bit stupid. The JFT39 thing has merits though. 14 people were done for "involuntary manslaughter". Firstly, does anyone really believe it was only 14 fans to blame? Secondly - "involuntary"? That would assume they had no intention of inflicting any harm on the Juve fans they were trying to get. Anyway, it's sorta besides the point - they seem to hate this being mentioned and I can understand why. Not the kind of shame I'd want associated with my club. Aside from being affected by the European ban, it's not really anything to do with us. I'd only ever mention it if there was some debate about how great their fans were. Post earlier today here also elaborated on that a bit.
2) They have a bit of an obsession with our attendance. They have a sort of point here, we rarely sell out. On the flip side, we tend to hover around 36,000ish as an average attendance I think. Basically, nobody wants to sit behind a pillar. Given the choice between being at the match and not being able to see the goal because of a big ****ing post or watching in the ale house, I'd go for the latter. Luckily I have a lovely speck at Goodison:
3) They seem to think Evertonians are some sort of different breed because they hate Liverpool. Take the Mirallas/Suarez incident the other month. Apparently it's "bitter" that a lot of blues laughed at this incident or thought it was poetic justice. Now, I'm not going to defend that reaction but I remember being in the pub about 10 years ago watching a derby at Anfield where Stevie G La launched two-footed at Gary Naysmith in a challenge that was about as obviously deliberate as it gets. There were loads, and I mean loads of reds in the pub who subsequently started laughing when the replay of the incident was shown. What's the difference? There isn't one, and it's basically to show that all teams have bellends who react like that in the heat of the moment or when they have a load of ale down them. Take that Spirit of Shankly YouTube clip, they'll distance themselves from that saying it was a moronic minority but they'll happily pick out an example of some blues being equally retarded about Hillsborough or something like that and claim it is representative of the fanbase. And in fairness, we do exactly the same thing.
It's pretty tiresome.
We've all got mates who are reds, most of whom are sound until you're in the heat of the moment and then reason goes out of the window. It's football. All of us claiming the other lot are markedly different than us are living in an alternative reality though.
