Kone

I must admit when you look at it plainly selling Anichebe and getting Kone in doesn't look like good business sense. Martinez wanted more options in attack though and so maybe Anichebe told him that he wanted to be playing every week guaranteed, something which Everton certainly shouldn't have been looking to do, so maybe our hands were tied a little in that regard.

I posted in the summer that we should sell jelavic/naismith/ anichebe/heitinga and if possible osman and pienaar as well IF fellaini was being sold then have a bit of rebuilding by martinez with youth.

Instead he signed kone and alcaraz.

So what you're saying here is, Jelavic scored more in three months than Kone did in a whole season?

Let's be honest, neither of them are exactly setting the world on fire but if you had the ball fall in the box to one of them, who would you trust more to hit the back of the net? I'd still take Jelavic 9 times out of 10 over Kone.

Yes, for an Everton team who were in form as opposed to a Wigan team who were battling relegation. Has jelavic reproduced that kind of form since the end of that season?

Maybe Jelavic would be better in that scenario but he rarely gets himself in those positions any more, defenders are wise to him and he's too slow to lose a man.

I'd have sold any of them but I'm guessing there were no takes. Plus, it's mental to sell that many established players in the hope of replacing them with better. Martinez on the whole did very well in his first transfer window. I expect him to do well again the the next one.

Mate, have you seen Kone running? I've seen milk turn faster. Using Jelavic's lack of pace when comparing him to Kone is folly.

I've seen Kone have maybe 4 or 5 good games. In 2 of those, he was being marked by Johnny Heitinga. Admittedly, I didn't see much of him before he came to Wigan but I saw plenty of Jelavic at Rangers (Scottish football, blah blah, I know) to know that he's a top predator in and around the penalty area. He was turd last season, God only knows why, and maybe he'll stay that way, but he was, and is, a better striker than Kone.

It's not like we wouldn't sell Jel, heitinga (who both would probably go if they could) if we had any offers. Osman and Naismith won't push for a move because they are at a club greater than their skill sets deserve and so we are stuck with them. And pienaar is class so he is always a good option to have.

Kone and alcaraz seem very odd purchases but we will have to wait and see. But unless we can get rid of two or three players and replace with quality we will never get top 4.

Never going to sell that many in one go...

Fellaini off to generate the funds
Heitinga and naismith off
Anichebe/jelavic off

Now its;
Heitinga - priority sale
Kone - donkey
Osman- finished
Alcaraz - injury prone
Pienaar- last chance to sell

Adios!

Pienaar should not be sold

I disagree. I firmly believe Kone will prove to be a better player than Jelavic this season. Maybe I'll be wrong, but that's what I predict.

Kone might not be that quick off the mark but he has got pace. Jelavic would struggle to outrun Mertesacker. They've both got poor first touches though.

Jelavic is a natural goalscorer, more so than Kone, but just not at this level. He's been guff for 18 months nearly now. In my opinion he's just been found out by defenders of a much higher calibre, he can't find the space he used to be able to as teams are wise to him. He's got no confidence at the moment but even fully confident I could never see him replicating his early form for us.

Neither of them will do much this season, unless Lukaku gets injured. Out of the two of them though, I'd still put Jelavic well ahead of Kone. Opinions and all that, innit? Saying the defenders are wise to Jelavic, maybe that's why kone looks like he's struggling? Or maybe it was Ramadan. However, against Stevenage, he missed from 3 yards with an open goal, not once but twice. That doesn't fill me full of confidence.

Good point, maybe Kone has been sussed out a bit as well. I just think Kone has more to his game than Jelavic. An in form Jelavic scored left, right and centre, but an out of form Jelavic doesn't offer us much at all, whereas I think Kone does. That 3 yard miss was awful but Jelavic did something equally as embarrassing against Southampton.

As you say, opinions. I'll either be looking to vault this thread by the end of the season or praying everyone forgot about it, haha!

I've bookmarked it already. When Jelavic lashes in a hattrick at Wembley, you're getting it.

He's ok. Probably not worth 5mil but the manager obviously wanted to get someone in that he knew wouldn't be absolutely terrible and could do what he wants him to do. I don't think he would have signed him if we already had Lukaku. So we ended up overpaying by about 2mil for a squad player, che disastro.

Cant pass, cant shoot, can barely run, cant even eat actual food.

If theres a worse player in the squad, I havent seen him yet.

IF he had any honour he would retire and save us the wages.
