You can only chase a game if you go a goal down.

I agree I'd have preferred to see a stronger squad, but to be fair I can't highlight any weak links in there. Maybe Naismith.

The problem for me is the players need to settle into a system, what he has done tonight is drop several 1st team players and then ask them to play a new system together for the first time as the named squad for tonight's match

We need to build on the second half performance at the weekend to establish continuity for the players and results going forward into next Monday.

The squad must feel like it,s some lab experiment eveytime he picks his team and formation.

FFS Roberto, at Everton we play 4 at the back and it's worked for fecking yonks. Do we really have to change that? Things are going fine the way they are. It seems 3 at the back is the long-term plan.

Come on Everton. I want a cup and these are turbo gash.

Excited to see Rom and Gerard again. Don't get injured, whatever you do though Lukaku, ffs.

I'm baffled - you moan when Moyes doesn't give youth a chance, and then moan when Martinez does.

The line up is spot on, a mixture of fringe players needing to prove a point and youth players getting valuable competitive experience. Anyone thinking we'd play a first team here are a bit mental.

Biggest plus tonight is the recognition of Sylvain Distin as captain.
Colossus of a defender, strength, pace, power and knows when and how to dig people out. Great pro...been our best player for the last two seasons IMHO. Well in the Big Milkman.

To be fair though, they did it in pre-season and one can only assume that they will have practised this system in training.

I do get what you're saying though.

Not sure when everyone considers this a Mickey Mouse competitions when the FA Cup is the holy grail and is basically the same (minus the history) and has way more ****e teams in it.

Really like the XI, glad we finally have a squad to rotate.

is right, can't believe people are moaning and saying we're out. Look at the bench, he's still taking it seriously; you have to keep the squad happy, not just the first team.

Let's face it moyes always went for the strongest lineup, and we didnt win a cup, so let's just see how the guy who DID win a cup plans pans out.

Long term we do need a squad of 20 players who can all come in and out and perform to near simlar standards. It's new to us!!
