seeing as there is no specific thread for him just like to add that I thought Mirallas once pushed up front and down the middle looked as good as I've seen him play, looked like he was enjoying it too.

I would still like to see Gerard get more time on the right as he gives us pace and natural width moreso than anyone else we have on the books.

Mine

Howard 5 He got lucky cos Barry is boss, would have been 3 but he made a few decent stops
Coleman 7 Did enough, couldnt push on as much as im sure he would have liked
Baines 10 Hes getting a 10 every game, NEA, a true hero
Jagielka 8 I love him
Distin 8 See above
Osman 6 Meh
Barry 9 Utterly superb
Barkley 8 Dub fade
Mirallas 8 Did well when pushed upfront, held it up well and probed all game
Jelavic 6 For his "assist" alone
Naismith 9 Well done lid

Why quotations around assist? It was an assist.

So happy for Naisy still
Got shivers when he was subbed off and Goodison roared their appreciation of his performance-- he's had such a tough time, and while this doesn't mean he's necessarily turned a corner, this can only be good for him and the team.
Martinez's words about him were also beautiful

They were indeed. Love how he spoke about his time at Kilmarnock, just a little added touch to show how knowledgeable he is and how involved in a player's career he will be. I think Martinez could make any player feel good about themselves.
On the other hand Moyes was like a footballing succubus, drawing out every ounce of confidence, self-expression and individuality in his drive to turn every player into a mere nut or bolt of the grand Moyes machine.

A few observations:

1) Thrilled for Steven Naismith. Played hard (and well) all match and was rewarded for his tenacity.

2) Step forward Gareth Barry. Keep playing like that and you just may force your way back into the England squad.

3) Even though he had a howler, Tim Howard had a very strong match.

4) Roberto Martinez. Right game plan, right subs, right result.

5) No goal but Jelavic got the assist on the winner. Hopefully that will boost his confidence a bit.

6) Good by Barkley but he's got to learn when to dish the ball. Held it or turned into trouble one too many times for my liking. He'll get that worked out with experience.

Made one excellent save from a Ramires curler which was going in Howard's far corner, so he had quite a leap to make. I still believe he is very fit and can have a long career; he is making the most of what he has, I just think we differ on what exactly it is that he has. Some solid catches later on too. But palmed out a shot weakly and, as everyone saw, almost cost us a goal.

What did Martinez say about Naismith, please?

Are you turning your attention to Howard now that Fellaini's gone?

Nah, I've never liked Howard.
And I'm not one for scaepgoats, I give every player their due, I just thought Fellaini was vastly overrated, wouldn't be missed, and had to be sold for the money being bandied about. You may disagree with me on #1, but I think I'm beginning to find quite a few allies on #2 and #3

Here you go. http://www.nsno.co.uk/everton-news/2013/09/martinez-wants-naismith-to-forget-playing-for-everton/

Roberto Martinez said:
I think Steven’s had it very hard since he arrived at the club but I don’t really think he’s been himself.
I saw Stevie play a lot for Kilmarnock and for Rangers and I haven’t seen that arrogance in the final third, I’ve never seen that belief or that desire. Everything has to be safe, everything has to be a bit forceful.

The way he works for the team he deserves to lose the ball by trying to be himself. I want Steven to do that. I want him to forget about the past, I want him to forget that he’s at Everton, I want him to feel that he’s on the park enjoying his football and showing his quality because when he does that he’s a very effective footballer. Today, on his birthday, he couldn’t have had a more fitting present than scoring the winner.

I think some of you are being very kind to Jelavic, he was absolutely appalling, I can't believe how easy he gets knocked off the ball, it's embarrassing. Even a winger like Mirallas did a far better job at holding the ball up.

Listened to it on the radio while at work and watched the recording Sunday morning. Thought we were well worth it in spite of Chelsea having a several good chances. Agree that Mirallas was far more effective when moved to the middle. Jelavic is snake-bitten currently I am afraid but what a knock-back for the goal. Our defence is strong _ three clean sheets now - and the spirit in the team is as good as ever. Hopefully Lukaku will not only be inspired but inspire the other strikers to find their best form. I thought Barry was outstnading. He is going to be a brilliant loan signing. Pleased for Martinez to get a banner victory like this one. - and up your hole Jose btw.

he had davies and mccauley in as centre halves, I've no idea how they played but you can bet your life on it that they wouldn't have been in that team if they didn't score, probably picked his team after watching motd
