Confirmed: Martinez New Everton Manager - All Reaction Here

Very nice read that...these parts stood out for me and if he can achieve that over time I would be over the moon. I do think its time that a manager at Everton started building a belief into the players that they can compete for the top 4 and not constantly tell players indirectly (through their words and statements) that Everton can not compete for the top places. If Martinez can instill a believe into the players I think half the battle is won...just my opinion. :)

"I always believe that to achieve things you don't need money," Martinez began. "There are other ways to be successful, but you need time. A large checkbook just enables you to accelerate the process. In football, you can compete against anyone if you are tactical, flexible, creative and have time to build."

and from the same article in the above post...
Under Moyes, Everton were often criticized for a lack of ambition in settling up for a draw against Big Four teams. When asked if he would do likewise, Martinez sounds aghast, as if the mere suggestion offended him. "No!" he says, revealing a change in style even more significant than the tailored blue suits he favors that have replaced Moyes' staid sweatshirts on the Everton sideline. "We will always go for a win. Going for a draw does not allow you to achieve what we want to achieve. Chelsea are a top-four team and that is what we want to be."

Must be honest wasnt overjoyed when Martinez was announced as our new manager, couldnt see how the manager of a relegated team was chosen, also not happy at his going back all the time for Wigan players, Mccarthy an exception but think if he can jell what we have with others bought or loaned, we could have a strong side, but needs to buy the likes of lucaku and delaflue( sorry cant spell most of these guys names) whatever it costs,

Barcelona won't sell Deulofeu for any money in the world, they want him starting for them in a couple of seasons.

he was asked the other day about the style of play...and im paraphrasing here but he said something like

'well theres a difference between playing the system and playing it well'

so clearly he knows were not firing yet, he understands the time and learning curve invoved and it pretty much says what everyone with some sense has already said on here - given time, the speed and fluidity will hopefully come.

Hes going to be a complete legend at everton im convinced of it

Martinez will improve as a manager. He knows that we have to be flexible he's mentioned it many times. Everyone was expecting 3/5 at the back but he's not played that. He is God.

Thats the only thing he has said to the youth team coaches so far. He hasnt been interfering too much telling them how he expects them to play...just asked the guys to make the youngsters as flexible as possible and teach them as many positions and formations and feasibly possible.

So he isnt expecting RBs to play up front...he just wants the players to be able to go from a 4-4-2 instantly to a 3-5-2 if need be and for every player to still know there job.

Genuinely...there were lots of doubters about his appointment - im not even including the chelsea game, but how many people are still underwhelmed by the man?

I have to say, I'm delighted at Bobby saying the in Echo that Naismith just has to forget about the past and that he is at Everton and just go out and play as though he is on the park. Being encouraged to do something different and expressive rather than play to a rigid system is a breath of fresh air. I lost count of the amount of times Barkey lost possession in the final third by trying to take one too many on rather than play someone in, but that's the way he is goign to learn as well as get better technically. The whole Moyes straightjacket way of playing was effective and at times good to watch, but now we have a manager who might not win us trophies but will bring back the School of Science.

When you go out with Martinez he chooses the wine, its his own insistence. He'll go wherever you want - pick any restaurant in town, he's there. Want something a little downmarket then he's at Gerry Wongs with you in Kirkby or the Chung Ku in Childwall. Doesn't matter he's with you and politely acting on your recommendations off the menu. Sweet and sour Cantonese style chicken in the Chung Ku obviously though. He'll do that sly thing where he'll last twenty quid at the girl behind the counter to pay for you both though and it does your head in what can you do.

If he turns out sh*te for Everton I'll boo the living sh*t out of him but that part of personality I like.

Very well said, Roberto.

Look at it this way. The concept of budget doesn't apply to International football. National teams aren't limited by budget. Why are Spain Boss and England an embarassment? You can't look at chequebook for reasons. Ultimately it comes done to footballing philosophy, and coaching. It's about football, not money. Lack of money is just an excuse for failure.
