against west ham, saha's second goal was the first goal i can remember us get from an actual shot... not a cross but a placed shot, in a long time.

as long as we get goals, i don't [Poor language removed] care how they come, but do you guys think the fact that we've been focusing on the air has hurt us at all? apart from yesterday, lescott has been struggling to score, as has cahill, and they're usually our two biggest areal threats. i'm just afraid we're getting predictable with our play, and because of that even our cross plays are suffering.

what will it take to get the likes of osman and arteta to start cutting inside and shooting from the top of the box? i think its vitally important that we balance our game out so we don't get predictable, and both types of play improve

Our shooting is pretty much [Poor language removed] though isn't it.

Other than Arteta against Fiorentina i cant think of any other long range (ie outside the box) goals we scored recently. Maybe Ossie against Larissa but there don't seem to be many.

There must be though surely?

yeah I've noticed that we hardly have shots outside the box. The fulham game did my head in cos of it when players easily couldve had a pop

We don't really have many players wit good long distance shots. Arteta can hit them but he rarely does, he prefers to look for the pass.

Osman shooting is hit and miss, either superb or they just bobble out of play. I can't comment of Fellaini's shooting, he hasn't hit one from range yet. I've seen Yak do it for Boro but not for us.

Gravesen could hit them, Carsley could occasionly and King Manuel had a bullet shot and loved shooting.

Saha can use both feet, his right foot is nearly as good as his left. He hit a volley in the first half with his right foot and generated lots of power. I definatly think we'll see more goals like the one yesterday from him.

We never shoot from outside the box ever. That's the one thing about Mikel that pisses me off, he gets into some really good shooting positions but just doesn't pull the trigger. I honestly think he could score about 5 more goals a season if he just tried it a few times.

Fellaini has a good shot btw, I can remember one or two. In fact he tried one about 5 minutes into his debut, straight at the keeper but a good hit. Come on Marouane.

i was gonna say that about captain pip "yes/no" neville, he hits..........he misses.

its the lack of shooting thats been really brassing me off tbh, we've arsed around outside areas, passing and then oh well just get another pass in rather than a cross. i think we'd all rather see them have a pop from range rather than dither about and not end up getting it over, and when we do whip one in there's only leon going up to challenge a 6'8" centre-half.
if we're gonna fanny about in the corner without getting it in then we may as well get peter beagrie back.
to me if you are prepared to have a go from distance and can get it on target then their keeper will stay on his line for one and have a bit of indecision for two. it will invariably be punched out or there'll be a rebound to snap up.
make the bastards hands sting and give him a bit of a test, rather that than 1 shot in a half.
if you've had a feel of the new ball as well then you'll see why i'm saying it as i reckon my missus could warm the keepers hands from 35 yards.

Refreshing that we have in Louis a striker who will have a pop from anywhere within range and gives the impression of confidence he will hit the back of the net.
Not had one like that for a good while.

Indeed, if you dont shoot you dont score, most keepers cant hold a 40 yard screamer and if it goes either side its a goal. If they palm it you get players all over that [Poor language removed] and if nothing else it keeps the keeper worried. I aint saying hit and hope, just line up some shots and let them pop.

These long to medium range shots should increase as confidence gets higher
I think the staff should encourage shots from outside the box (maybe they do) cause if it's on target who knows what can happen with dodgy bounces ,deflections etc

I thnk the first step is to develop a threat centrally clearly all our chances currently come form the flanks or over the heads of our midfeilders if there was central midfeild penetration in the opposition half, then maybe we could get a few shots in.
