Naismith and jelavic

There's enough to suggest that they understand each others game's. Naismith never had a real chance to establish himself last season & when he did play it was never in his favoured position. It'll be interesting to see if Martinez gives him more of an opportunity, particularly if in tandem with Jelavic, to see if they can re-find the partnership they had North of the border.
they played in the same team on numerous occasions last season to zero effect.

We really need to drop this matter. Kone will be first choice attacker...Martinez hasn't shelled out a scarce £5/6M to sit his new signing on the bench....and if we're left stuck hoping for a Naismith/Jelavic pairing to spark something this season we really will be in big trouble.

I'm hopeful we can shift someone out and get a new striker in. I just don't believe in this attack, ATM.

Yeah, usually with Naismith stuck out on the right flank as opposed to playing off him in the second striker position.

Kone won't be first pick automatically, he's been bought to strengthen the squad, it's not like we've bought Van Persie ffs.

Martinez has been looking at his options so far in pre-season & he watched Naismith & Jelavic both put in good performances last night.

Both players will struggle to be as bad as they were last season.

Naismith shouldn't ever get anywhere near the wings ever again. You can't blame him for being played there either. No doubt his confidence was affected. We've seen a few times he can be decent when he's played off a front man.

Jelavic will start scoring again I believe. He's got goals in him and last season was just one of them things that happen to a lot of players over the course of their careers.

Together??? I can't see it myself. We've got better options IMO.

He was never stuck out there. Never did he operate wide right, he drifted inside all the time.

We'll see how he fairs this season as it seems clear Martinez believes he has some sort of role to play. I despair of this club being stuck with players like him and Osman and Heitinga though.

He did drift inside, but it doesn't alter the fact that he was being asked to play out of position & rarely got the chance to play in his natural role, as Moyes was obsessed with playing Felli there.

Every squad needs depth & used correctly I think Naismith has more to offer than we saw last season. Osman gets ridiculous amounts of stick without justification. Heitinga is a beaut though & providing we can find someone daft enough to pay his wages he'll be gone by 2nd Sept - without doubt imo.

Don't think Naismith can be anything else but a bridesmaid for when both Kone amd Jelavic are out.

We need to keep hold of Jelavic. By the looks of things he's finding his feet again and on his day is a better striker than Kone IMO

.....I'm doubting that any of our forwards are capable of moving us to the next level. We know top forwards are a valuable commodity, unless RM can unearth a nugget and I think we know that Kone doesn't fall into that bracket.

For me his primary purpose off the right was to offer the fullback protection.

The 'one of those things' that happened to Jelavic was called 'David Moyes'.

I look at Jelavic and it looks like we've got our 20m striker back. He's finding space again and scori g quality goals, last nights was superb. Mirallas also looks like he's going to have a top season.

Not really. He was falling over his feet at one point. You can't blame Moyes or that. Moyes need for strikers to work their bollocks off was just one of a few factors to afect him IMO.

The fact that motes tactical forte was Defensive is the main reason why attacking players fail under him. Mirallas even said he was asked to do alot of defensive work and he wasn't used to attacking full pelt and then having to defend full pelt immediately after.

Martinez will get the best out of the attacking players. Defensively we will probably concede a lot. But it's finding a balance that is the key. Will have to wait and see how we go.

Jelavic's biggest problem last year was that Moyes always made him run the channels. How is a striker supposed to score when he isn't in the box? Looking very good and I think he will have a good season.
