basically this. Even one marquee signing, a couple more squad players and fulfill his 'promise' to bring what seems to be a good number of young lads through. He's affable for sure but to me his transfer dealings to date could hardly be considered visionary nor do they smack of industry / hard work .. and this concerns me. 3 weeks until kick-off ladies.

I think his signings so far have just been sensible squad additions, Deulofeu could be a massive coupe, not gonna know for a while yet. I imagine videos and stats only say so much, so hopefully he's having a good look at the players day to day before making genuine additions, which could prove very sensible.

My only worry is I hope he's not obsessed with his philosophy of how football should be played. Don't get me wrong, I wanna see good football at GP but not at all costs over that of winning!

I disagree with that sentiment. I'd rather see us getting away from the agricultural footy Moyes put in place and lose games along the way if it means forging a new identity and reputation for us on the pitch. Obviously winning football is the objective.

If his method is to continue playing through thick and thin until he gets the playing style right, then I back him 100%.

Sick and tired of us not being known for what we were known as for so long. We need our football heritage back.

It will be interesting to see how Bob "No fear" Martinez handles the pressure of the results business side of the game.

The fixtures tend to suggest that we need to get off to a good start as we have challenging games games to come after the first month or two. At Wigan, the fans put up with the slide slumping to defeats on a constant basis until the end of the season, I suspect that will not be the case at Everton.

Method, philosophy, approach, systems..they all use the language.

And as long as it isn't used to excess as an excuse (as with Brendan reaching for it as a security blanket) I'd sooner it was elaborated rather than giving no impression of what a manager is looking to achieve.

I think you've hit on the heart of the matter.I was at first, overly worried about RM coming to us on the back of a relegation.But having thought about the funerial atmosphere generated at the DW it's no wonder they lose so often.

We won't be but....

As long as we're giving it a go and Martinez is not sticking rigidly to one set of players or one system then I'm fine with it.

We never won anything with Moyes so as long as we're not in serious danger of relegation I know we're rolling the dice with Martinez.

It won't happen though.

Regardless we should stick by him, its not like Moyes has not had slow starts but immense finishes, it would be worth seeing if the squad has inherrited that. Won't be pretty if we finish anywhere near that though, even if he kept us up... probably lose Baines at least to cover the loss of funds.

I'm still struggling to come to terms with the fact we seem to have a manager talking the club up and sounding generally positive! Very early days I know but really looking forward to this season more than I have for a while....
