Jelavic?

...sorry, but Jelavic flatered to deceive that first season. I thought he was absolute rubbish last seaon. He couldn't trap the ball, had no first touch ability...and what was with his always tripping over his own feet? Was that a ruse to make defenders lose concentration through laughter?...well it didn't work. Kone is miles better than Jela and moaning Vic.

we could do though if RM utilisted his resources, we didnt have any money last season but moyes flogged the deadweight (rodwell, yobo, cahill) which funded moves for one quality signing (mirallas) and 1/2 other lower signings, we should sign Bony with his transfer budget then flog deadweight (heitinga, jelavic, gueye, maybe even naismith) and use the £10-12 mil from those sales to bring in 2-3 players like Fer, Alcaraz even Kone as a squad player etc.

My god your right, Its just that easy

Get Kenwright on the phone sharpish we have appointed the wrong man, Bluenose1995 is the man to lead this club to glory

MARTINEZ OUT

Whilst your right, I don't think people are questioning that fact with kone. I think people are questioning 5M on a player who is months away from being 30. So unless he is a big success and fires the goals to challange top 4 then it has been a waste of 5M that we can not get back. There's no sell on value and he's hardly going to improve as a player.

Add that to at the moment it would seem it will leave us going into next season with kone jelavic and Vic as our 3 strikers it doesn't really look that of a team challanging top 4. Of course this may not be the case, kone may be 1 of 2 strikers coming in, maybe jelavic will be moved on...who knows, we can only judge on what we see, which so far is nothing to get excited about...YET!

Maybe when SSN announce later Rooney's intention to leave old trafford to head back to Goodison Park we can all get a bit more excited....(y)

£5m for Shelvey. Crazy market place. New tv revenue making its presence felt.

Puts into perspective the two bits of business Martinez is doing for the same amount for two better players.

We support Everton FOOTBALL Club mate, not The Everton School of Business.

Its all part of the same thing though. If we want to continue supporting Everton FOOTBALL club at the same level we currently are and higher then we need to make smart business moves.

That said if he scores a few goals next season and plays well it will be a smart business move anyway. Sadly 5M is nothing these days. Except to us.

I like this signing, another option upfront and some added pace, which we need upfront. Jelavic cant beat a man and Anichebe can only back his body into players and turn. We have needed a striker that can genuinely make runs onto through passes.

Lets face it, upto 5m, is nothing in the market these days. ANd i'd welcome Alcaraz on a free too.

People forget just how small our squad is sometimes. A couple injuries and we have ended up with Hibbert in central defence and Fellaini upfront before.

The only time it makes me cry a little is when I look at other weaker clubs spending more money, and bidding on arguably better players, Bony, Chadli, etc.

This. Our squad depth is shocking.
For me I just think we're paying a million or two too many for Kone. That sort of money is crucial for us. I'd absolutely love to be proved wrong though!

2 very good points

We were VERY lucky with injuries last year, could have been much worse.

There is NO WAY Kone is a 3 million quid striker.

If he had scored 11 for UTD or Chelsea last season we'd be paying 10 mil

Just because he played for a crap relegated team does not make him a £3mill player.

Horrified by this signing, and what a terrible start to the Martinez era. Statement of intent? Realisation of poverty?

I'll hope to be forced to eat my words over the course of the season, but right now signing a soon to be 30 year old whose never actually been any good for 5m is unbelievable.

Nail on head.

We'd pay £10 million for a soon 30 year old from United who scored 11 goals? I don't agree.
Saha was 30 when we got him from United. He'd a much better goals ratio than Kone. We paid £2 million?
