I cant be the only one who's NOT bothered about this 'no used game' policy from Microsoft. Such a little thing that people are making a big thing out of.
Pre-ordered the Xbox One before anyway.
PSN being free isnt a plus point by the way, its free because its absolutely shocking. Xbox LIVE is superior to PSN in every way shape and form.

I really hope people with your opinion are in the extreme minority, as that is a startlingly oblivious comment.

It is not a little thing. I buy a quarter of my games pre-owned, trade in 50% of the games I buy and rent about a fifth of the games I play. This is what makes my hobby affordable and viable.

Now maybe you're minted or maybe all you play is FIFA so you're not arsed, but you're not the only type of consumer out there. What about the DRM? No internet connection, no gaming. Looking forward, ten years or so down the line, no servers... no gaming. You're paying for an extended rental and the concept of true ownership is being removed. Apply that logic to books or films or music, and well, it doesn't stick -- it becomes obviously ridiculous.

As for PSN, I was always happy paying for XBL Gold as I thought the difference in quality was worth it. However if you're paying for PS Plus as you seemingly have to for online gaming, then you'll be expecting XBL Gold service on the PS4, which I suspect they'll be able to provide with the increase of subscriptions.

Both have pros and cons, wouldn't say the xbox has 'major strategic advantages over PS3' like. Especially when the ps3 had:

Blu-Ray player built in
Free PSN
The original xbox didn't have built in wi-fi
Had some quality exclusives too (MGS4, Uncharted etc etc)

All true, but all comparatively insignificant compared to the 18 month headstart that XB360 had. You can't complete if your product is still on the drawing board.

And also, a lot of those supposed advantages just ended up being as much of a drawback in the early years, as they bumped the cost of the console up without noticeable benefits. BluRay added £200 onto the console and then the films were £25 each (for a film you probably had on DVD and then VHS before that).

It's clearly not a little thing though.

And the 'blu ray player' is a bit meaningless anyway as when the PS3 launched Blu Rays were ridiculously expensive and a large number of people didn't even have HDTVs.

Agreed. I buy nearly all of my games 2nd hand. Doesn't make sense to me to spend £40 on a new release even if I can afford to when I know I can get it for £20 in 3-4 months' time, and then there's the titles that I would never pay full price for, but would happily spend £10 or less, and if I get a few hours of entertainment out of that then I'd consider it money well spent.

One of the reasons I got the XB360 when I did was that, having been established longer, there was a much larger availability of 2nd hand games around 2008-2009 than PS3 had.

Microsoft are risking alienating people like me. I know gamers like me who spend maybe £200-£300 a year on games probably don't make much of a difference to their bottom line profit margin, but you need all types of gamers to be a thriving and successful games platform.

I spend a fortune on games, as do most of my mates. We all adopt rentals and/or used games/trade ins to finance our gaming. Most passionate gamers I know do the same.

But it's not just used game buyers that being hurt here. What happens if you buy a £40 game and well, it's absolutely sh*te? Or it's really short and you're done after five hours? You should not be told you either can't sell it or can sell it, but only in a controlled, monitored way.

When a company sell you a product, what you do with it should be up to you. It is yours and they shouldn't be able to make money off its resale. That's a basic consumer right that I thought would never be lost, and I weep for anyone who gives credence to this 'have your cake and eat it' publisher paradise by buying the new Xbox.

Well I agree that it is a big deal from the point of view of the gamer, but I defend Microsoft's right to sell it however and with whatever strings attached that they want. It's a buyer/seller contract, and if you don't like it then no one is forcing your to make the trade.

At the end of the day, people will vote with their feet, they always do. If they decide that they can have a better gaming experience on a rival platform without these restrictions then that's where they'll do their business. I would hope that MS sees sense if it is harming their product. If they alienate gamers due to this, then both parties will lose.

Resale clauses in contracts have always existed and probably always will. Being a FOOTBALL forum that much should b obvious to us all...

I moved from my Amiga to PS during the PS1 days but switched to Xbox due to the crappy disk drive on the PS2 that wouldn't play most of my films. Been with Xbox since then, must have been the late '90's like but I'll definitely be going with PS in the next gen console. I don't need to desperately play a game on its release day and am happy to wait for a month or three for a game to become what I'd consider reasonably priced. I also wouldn't be able to justify buying Hal of the amount of games that I currently do if they have little or no resale value that can be put towards the next purchase.

I buy all my games brand new yer bunch of minge bags

To be fair games have been licensed and not owned for a long time. You don't technically own any 360 games that you purchase, you're licensing them. Same for the PS3.

You have a consumer right not to buy into anything you don't want to, and that includes video games.

As others have said the overriding reasons the 360 was successful in the first place were timing and price. I have much more confidence in Sony delivering a good product than I do Microsoft.

True, but my point about ownership isn't semantics, but more what happens after you're done with what you've paid for. When I buy something and for whatever reason no longer want it, I want to be able to swap it or sell it in the way that gets me the best deal. Not at some 'participating retailer' (cronyism at its finest) and not in a way where I have to do what Microsoft deem okay.

If other people are okay with that, then fair enough, but I suspect most people will not be. Well, judging by the reactions around the net, it seems most people aren't.

Which i find strange, because most of those people presumably have smartphones and purchase apps which you can't trade, and a lot of them probably use Steam and own a big library of games they can't re-sell.

When gamers are constantly demanding bigger and better experiences and those games cost tens of millions of dollars to produce i don't think it's surprising that used games are being targeted. It's a huge revenue loss.
