Anichebe and Vaughan

Anyone who played FM 2009 put all their money on Vaughan.
Even the Collyer brothers hated Anichebe, but in that game Vaughan became his generation's best english striker.

Conversely, as mentioned our whole generation has been blighted by crappy injuries.
Must be something they put in their food in the 90's.

Derby want Vaughan - 13 goals in 36 games for Huddersfield, good to see him get games and not injuries.

Would still love him back - who knows maybe he could partner Vic again.

There is still a player in Vaughan, maybe now he is 24 he might learn to pace himself better. I saw him play on the wing for Huddersfield again Birmingham earlier this season and he played really well for 65 minutes then got injured and came off. Just summed him up really.

I always thought Anichebe would make it ahead of Vaughan. Always seemed to me that Vaughan's game lacked direction whereas it was obvious what Vic was/ is good at.

I agree although I never thought that back then.

Right now there's certain aspects of Vic's game which he is outstanding at. If you could get his attitude right he is virtually unplayable which makes it worth whilst persisting with him.

Vaughan on the other hand is just a good player but not particularly great at anything. Add in the injuries and he's not worth the hassle.

Vaughan just won player of the season for Huddersfield, all the fans reckon he's boss. Anyone that injuries didn't make a difference, and that he never would have been a good player, are dead wrong. If he'd never had the injuries, he could have been an exceptional player.

I saw a couple of his goals at the weekend and he looked decent. Hopefully he stays injury free now and has a good career. Wouldn't mind seeing him back here at some point but I sense now he'll probably just want first team football after all of his unjury troubles.

Always thought Moyes had more faith in Victor than he did Vaughan with the amount of chances he give him compared to Vaughan whenever they both came back from injury. Shame for Vaughan really as like others thought he was naturally the better striker of the two. Plus had the bottle to step up and take a good pen against Utd in the 09 semi.

Vaughan was a great lad with great potential. There was the odd glimmer of hope between the two of them over about 5 years, that one match at the end of the 2006/7 season which filled me with optimism; we had Arteta and Fernandes bossing the midfield with Vaughan and Anichebe upfront and we gave Portsmouth a footballing lesson (back when that was something difficult) tonking them 3-0. Vaughan also scored a great goal away to Chelsea the final day of the season the week after. Really thought those two would be our future - not forgetting Fernandes!

edit
the BBC match report of the day says it all, sadly:
Mikel Arteta put Everton ahead from the penalty spot after 59 minutes following a foul by Glen Johnson on exciting young striker James Vaughan.

Even Moyes' comments bring back good memories. We seemed to have a much stronger relationship with him then... this contract bollocks has soured things. I do remember the atmosphere that day, it was an absolute cracker:
"I have to pay tribute to our supporters today. They acted like supporters of a proper football club - they were nothing short of magnificent and made as much of a difference as the players.

I always thought the opposite , I think he rated Vaughan much higher but became frustrated by the injuries and perhaps the perceived changes to his personality & attitude towards the end of his time here.

I seen them play upfront together in the reserves they were a great combination linked well together , but Vaughnys injuries finished him ok at a lower level he is doing well made up for him just wish he could have developed here without bad knee injuries.
