Jelavic ended a 7 game goal drought in the Premier League on Saturday. Just to put his profligacy into context here are a few other top strikers going through a barren spell:

(League only)

Welbeck 14
Mackie 13
Torres 11
K. Jones 10
Defoe 9
Graham 9
Carlton Cole 8
Shola Ameobi 8
Bent 6
Crouch 6
Le Fondre 6
Adebayor 5
Di Santo 5
Giroud 5
Pogrebnyak 5
Walcott 5
Long 5
Jerome 4
Dempsey 4
Odenwingie 4
Van Persie 3

Good post, good perspective. I'd be interested in seeing how his on-off target rate compares to other strikers.

Torres 11 is absolutely incredible.

Unless I've missed a goal in there somewhere, Jelavic's run lasted 12 games not 7.

He scored vs Cheltenham in the cup (inbetween Newcastle and Swansea so 7 is correct if you count all games, 12 if you count premier games)

It's interesting that United (Welbeck), Chelsea (Torres), Spurs (Defoe, Adebayor & Dempsey) and Arsenal (Giroud & Walcott) are represented in the list. In almost all of those circumstances goals from other areas of the team have papered over the cracks.

Van Persie has scored just 1 goal in 10 games in all competitions. Demba Ba only has 2 in 8. And Tottenham and the Gunners hardly have any extra forwards to call upon.

You're correct. I mistakenly counted back to the Cheltenham goal. Still, at least he isn't Welbeck!

His goal average is still higher than the league average, but he's getting less on target this season than the 2nd half of last season.

Just looking at Premier League top scorers over the last few years. The following players made the top 10 in consecutive seasons:

2012 & 2013 Van Persie, Demba Ba, Dzeko, Rooney
2011 & 2012 Van Persie
2010 & 2011 Tevez, Bent
2009 & 2010 Torres, Agbonlahor, Bent, Lampard, Rooney
2008 & 2009 Ronaldo, Torres
2007 & 2008 Ronaldo, Berbatov, Yakubu
2006 & 2007 Bent, Rooney, Yakubu, Drogba
2005 & 2006 Henry, Lampard, Yakubu
2004 & 2005 Henry, Yakubu, Pires
2003 & 2004 Van Nistelrooy, Henry, Beattie, Owen, Shearer, Anelka, Pires
2002 & 2003 Henry, Van Nistelrooy, Shearer, Owen.

I think it's noticeable that it's become difficult for any striker to consistently score season after season like it used to happen with Henry, Van Nistelrooy and Shearer. The other thing that jumps out is that Yakubu made the list for 4 years running!
