I thought about doing something like this, with one big change. Don't guess results.

Here's how I think it could work:

Everton v Man City at Etihad.

Expected Points for Everton = Average of (average away points for Everton this season) and (average points earned by Man City opponents at Etihad)

I think that might be more accurate than just guessing, by accepting the probabilities of many outcomes.

Another point: You could do the same with goals to estimate goal differential.

Just to update this I think it's going to be incredibly close. Since I first did this the RS and Spurs now look increasingly ropey whereas Arsenal and Chelsea have picked up solid wins.

In short I now have us finishing 6th on goal difference but only a point off 4th.
