Defending - Aerial Balls

Howard is criitsized a lot for the way he deals with corners, but how many times do we see opposition forwards blocking him?
Referees do nothing to stop it, so he often can't get to the ball. Unless he has a clear path to the ball, a goalie has very little
time to decide what he's going to do. It's often a case of damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.

On the subject of corners, I think the skill level of the takers in our league, and probably other leagues is poor. Wouldn't you think
that with practice at training you could consistantly put the ball within a yard or so of where you wanted?

Somewhere in front of goal along the edge of the six yard box would be my target, but most are just kick and hope and go anywhere.

We don't attack the ball

The opposition forwards do

They do because they are allowed to run (man marking ) at the ball

They do because they are allowed to run ( zonal marking ) into the space where the ball is coming

Two players ( say ) both going for the same ball in the same space, some one sh1ts out and it isn't usually the player who scores

Draw your own conclusions

Attack

The

Ball

(not the space or the man )

The not being 6'6" thing is false

Headed goals from the sublime to the ridiculous

Young

Osman

To totally misquote Mae West

It's not the man in your life that matters but the life in your man

Sometimes you have to be prepared to go in ( for headers at corners ) where it hurts

Just looking at how we were set up for Wigan's corner. Same as the one against Oldham we had Baines on the near post, Jelavic parallel with him on the 6 yard line and then Coleman and Neville stood with the 'keeper. Heitinga was on the penalty spot. Pienaar, Fellaini, Osman and Distin were just inside the area and Mirallas was on the edge.

Exactly the same as in the previous round the ball went straight over Jela and the goalie couldn't come for it because he was pinned in by his own player. We had about four defenders running back towards our own goal. Distin and Ossie were facing the play and couldn't tell where their man was. They got caught under the ball and could only jump vertically, whereas Figueroa could get in between them and attack the ball.

I can't really figure out Moyes' logic with this set up. I can only imagine that the idea is to try and give the 'keeper as much chance of reaching the ball as possible. It fails horribly though because he can't get past his own defender and the forward, so any ball towards the six yard box only needs to be nodded on target for a certain goal.

Why are our only two players over 6 ft placed so far out? It makes it really awkward for them to get in a position where they can clear the ball. If we had Jelavic, Fellaini and Distin dotted across the 6 yard line it would take a very accurate or fortunate ball to drop in between them but out of reach of the goalkeeper.

A corner isnt a cross, its a corner.

You know, 1 of them things where we have 11 men in the box.

And yes your right, I didnt watch the game, I was smashing ya mar all over the front room.

To be honest lad. I don't even reckon you follow Everton or Football.
