Moyes always says the same thing going into big games

"we prepare as we always do and we treat it no different than any other"

Is that the problem? because he treats them normally he gets found out?

wembley play off finals, fa cup ties, league cup ties, uefa cup we have frozen alot with moyes at the helm. preston said the same thing about him rubbish in big games

He is a negitive manager, this transfers to the players when we have a big game, the track record pretty much proves this. Also, that he still needs an average 36 year old to organise his players on the pitch doesnt really do him any favours as a coach, his second season aside, we have always crumbled when it matters most

It's a weird one.
Recently our results against the 'big' teams at home have been very good in the past year or so but I don't understand why our results away to them are so poor.
Which is why I think mentality is maybe a part of it.
How we set up for games is also part of it.

For example, Moyes could of put out a better team on Sunday.
Neville is clearly not good enough to play for us and should retire at the end of the season, the evidence is there when we play, I just don't understand why Moyes plays him. Neville's experience and leadership is obvious but he offers very little. Heitinga was another one, Distin was injured so mix it up a bit, play Duffy, he's tall and strong. Etc, etc.
His decisions really confuse me in regards to picking teams at times, why didn't he give Oviedo a chance at RB, he did well the other week and gives us another positive attacking player on the pitch, like Mirallas, who did put his foot in on the wing and caused a few problems.

I also don't think he's brave enough to play some of the youngsters, which is something that concerns me.
Sometimes he get's it right, but in general he is very negative at times.
Inferiority complex comes back to mind in games like Liverpool away, the feeling is always going to be of dread and pessimism.
But I do think there are more important things to worry about, like giving the squad fresh impetuous with a young player, trying to be a bit more intrepid and less insipid with our stye of play.

When we play Oldham I would love to see a couple of young players given a chance with our first team, see what Stones is made of and Duffy, there are not many first team opportunities for them this season, this is one of them against a League One side. If Moyes did it, then that would be a step in the right direction, not doing it would be in direct contradiction to his comments after the United game, 'our squad is tired.'

if only moyes could transmit the righteous anger when facing citeh to when facing the ****e and manure... he shows citeh absolutely no respect when taking them home and away and the players are resolute and defiant on the pitch.

It's in people's head's most of this rubbish, and it always comes about after loosing the big games which incedentaly are against teams that are better than us.

Evertonians seem the worse to admit getting beat by a better team or a team that performed on the day. We lose a big game and well "moyes bottled it" is usually the first thing to come out. I'm not saying he doesn't get it wrong at times with maybe tactics or selections ect ect... But bottle it, I just don't buy it.

IMO up until this season with our very strong first 11, we'v always had a team that is competing to the best of its ability to be competing on a simlar level with teams that are better than us. We're slightly off it or the opp slighty on it and were in trouble and the quality difference shows.

And one of our main problems is we're never underestimated by any team. The top teams treat our games as a top of the table clash. One where they have to be on it to win. We don't get underestimated like maybe your Swansea's ect do at times. Similarly the teams at the bottom treat us like a top of the table side and come to park the bus as they do against utd's ect..

Unfortunately we're stuck in that "Nearly place" we don't have the game winners that utd/city ect have, take our main threat Fellaini out and then who? Maybe mirallas but the top top teams have 3/4 players on the pitch to change/win a game aswell as prob a couple on the bench and maybe 1 not even in the squad...

I just think some expect to much of moyes and our squad at times. Sitting sixth at the mo is about where Everton should be, yet there's so much Fume around.

He goes out not to lose first.

Win second.

At times yeah I would agree, and in the main over the years with our league consistant high league finishes you'd have to say its been successful. I always think with moyes he sets out dependant on what players he has at his disposable.

I wouldn't say he's gone out not to lose once this season mind.

Sure is some reactionary stuff being posted just because we lost at Old Trafford. Sure, in the first years of his tenure we'd look to defend deep and nick a goal against big teams. That was because we didn't have the personnel to go toe to toe with them.

In recent years that's changed. We've largely had Man City in our pocket. We've beaten Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal, and deservedly so.

That we're getting to the latter stages of cup competitions shows that we're getting better. We never used to in the early Moyes days.

Of course experience plays a part. Look how long it took Man Utd to do anything in the Champions League. For all their money, Man City have also struggled in Europe. It takes time to gain the experience to succeed in a particular environment, and the sharp end of competitions is just the same.

Guaranteed that the more we get there, the better we'll get.

We don't blood youngster so we have to rely on the old stagers more. The simple answer is blood the younger squad players the harder answer will be against who?
He put out a weaker team against Leeds and got pilloried on here.
So Oldham away in the cup do we go with a full strength 1st team give Johnny, Jelly a chance to get some much needed form back or use it as a chance to bring in the young guns?
Me I'd go full strength, go for broke we should secure a ball in the bag for the next round draw.

He's not a motivator even his public utterances leave you rolling your eyes thinking wtf, "big games" require more than "aye, it's a bit blowy today lads ...remember to warm up properly"

I concluded long ago he plays the percentages in the league thinking certain grounds aren't worth worrying about, the team is good enough to pick up 40 points and a bit more and the cups can just fck off.

It's a plan for Stoke, Southampton, West Brom etc but the plaudits he gets for it from some evertonians makes me wonder.

Spot on with the post. You should bookmark that post, come back to it this time next year because if things play out as they would appear then our friendly forum chats might be centric to our league position next year.

We've drawn too many games this season, against teams we should have beaten. Why haven't we finished them off? Personnel? Tactics?
