Our style of play?

We do play some good football but we're too slow getting forward, we're not clinical enough or cunning enough and we only really have one way of playing.

I'd like to see us play it more and get the likes of Mirallas in behind and use his pace as a weapon to cut teams open. And tbh, as good as the Baines, Pienaar combination is, they need to stop playing that extra pass between themselves and get balls into box cos too many times when they get into good, crossing positions, they play that extra, unnecessary pass!.

But i dont mind mixing things up and going long, but if were going to do that, it would be wise to get bodies in and around the man were aiming for!. Too many times we go long to Felli or Anichebe and there isnt a man within 2 yards of em to pick up on the knock downs or flick ons!.

Yesterday at one point we had 5 upfront and when we went long to either Felli or Anichebe, nobody got around em just incase they won the ball, so we could feed off of them and try and make summat happen, too many times the second balls fell to Villa and they cleared!. If your going to go direct you need to surround the player your aiming for to feed off any knock downs etc!.

This. The tiki-taka is lovely and all, but sometimes you just have to be a bit more direct. It's pointless going long tho if there isn't going to be anyone around Felli/Vic to support and pick up second balls. And Bainaar have definately had a tendency to over elaborate sometimes this year. Starting to be like Arsenal a few years ago, who seemed liek they could only score if it was a wonder goal. They all count, no matter what they look like, and there's no points for style.

.....I can't see how anybody watching Baines and Pienaar can say we are route one. That left side are like the Harlem Globetrotters at times and the likes of Osman and Fellaini are able to join in. I do think we also go directly from back to front at times. Jagielka in particular plays that long, diagonal ball to Fellaini which can be effective. Generally, I think we mix our approach rather than have a specific style.

we're so different with coleman at right back. i don't mind jags' diagonals to felli so much, because we can't just play the same way every single attack, it will eventually get nullified, especially by the better teams. It's just when we have jags doing it from RB, and anlongside him there's heitinga as well as distin doing the same thing (distin less so). with coleman in the team there's only the two centre backs doing it at times. like billycooper says, we suffer from lack of pace, especially when coleman's not there

Pienaar has been very average for much of the season, IMO.

we need to do both; we play some sexual passing football, and also lumping to Fellaini can work too. What we've seen in recent weeks however, is pointless long balls into no-one from the back. Why not pass it out of the back, you can pick a player to pass to and it will definitely reach his feet, where as long balls are a complete gamble.
