I would like to see a midfield that is something like this while Gibson is injured:

-----Fellaini Osman

Mirallas Naismith Pienaar

The crux of the matter is I'm not convinced by this. He's a top class destructive midfielder but I think positionally Fellaini needs a midfielder to sit deeper than him. He's excellent at destroying moves and winning balls so people think he's defensive but he doesn't have the discipline needed to sit deep because he likes to get around and break up moves higher up the pitch (which is great because it means we break quickly when he wins it but it also means he gets beaten by runners so we need a player behind him to mop up). I wouldn't be comfortable playing him behind two more attacking players.

You'd either get us being exposed like we were for the last half an hour of the Villa game or Osman will be forced too deep like Mikel was and he'll be neutered.

see your point. don't think he use to wonder too far forward after winning the ball, maybe i'm just blinded by the fact he hasn't really scored many goals from open play apart from when playing ACM

I think there's a happy medium, though, which is not the forwardmost midfielder in a central three but not the most defensive either. And it's that middle position with a gibson type behind and an osman type in front that I think he works best in.

I'm just not sure forcing him to sit by himself while two players of the likes of Osman and Barkely go forward in front of him is the right move.

We'll see.

I would take Reo-Coker, his attitude isn't great but he is a better option than Neville in CM. Maybe Moyes could sort the attitude?

*awaits abuse* ;)

Moyes has never done well with attitude though, look at Van Der Meyde, Drenthe and even Yakubu/Yobo

Barkley has got great potential, but he hasn't shown enough in the last 12 months to even be considered for the first team. If he had done well pre-season then maybe, but he didn't.

Fellaini will.drop back... Maybe miralles behind Jelly

Moyes won't drop Fellaini back IMO and neither should he. All our good form in the last 9 months has come with Fellaini higher up the pitch and even at Villa and WBA we fell apart when he went deeper.

I don't know we're the myth has come from that it's his best position either. He never played there for Standard, he doesn't play there for Belgium and he's now looking a really top class player since he's been pushed into what his is best position by us.

He's a very good player but defensively, he's just not as good, he doesn't track runners and doesn't have the discipline for the deeper role. Add in the fact that it's a waste of his talent him being there then I can confidently say I doubt very much we'll see him starting many games in that position.

It will be Neville there, all those clutching at straws putting Fellaini in there are doing so more in hope as Neville and Osman will play in Gibsons absence.

Will you take Michael Ballack on a short-term deal before Vadis is signed for Everton? Ballack is a free agent.

dont understand how many people are mentioning barkley, but when we were getting this guy on loan everyone was sayig he has to go out on loan as he isnt good enough yet.

which he isnt
