The Spurs situation and Everton

What can Everton learn from this?
I’d posit that they should’ve learned from our recent experiences, and prior to Dyche coming in, Everton should have learned from Everton.

Should we sign Richarlison?

He’s going to be on a free isn’t he? I’d say it depends very much if Moyes wants him and if he can stay injury free. The player would undoubtedly want to come back and he’d be an instant win with the fans again of course, but would he fit now? And it’s no good signing someone to be in the physio room all the time. Don’t read this as me being against it, if Moyes deemed him still useful I’d be all over this.

Has the constant Managerial changes made the club unstable?

Yes, again, as had we under Moshiri and this speaks volumes about the stability Moyes developed between 2002 and 2013. Constant managerial changes are never impressive (see Notts Forest) and are a huge part of why we were in constant relegation battles over the last few years.

Have they focused too much on corporate activity and the stadium?
I’d say not, they’ve been there a few years now and this decline is much more recent.

Everton need to take note that this is happening for Spurs.

Do we think that new stadium of ours and its environs would be conducive to generating the type of communal response to save the club's bacon again?

A soul-less anodyne environment like that? A stadium with zero reference apart from badges 50 foot off the ground on the corners of the east and west stands to the team that play in it? A stadium claimed by rugby league and union?

Nope

New stadium or not walking out on mass at HT is pretty poor and something we would NOT do as a fan base.

The lesson from spurs is that when go go through as many managers as they have that creates instability and apathy.

Forest are the same and both squads were better than ours it’s the no consistency with the managerial appointments so that’s in the owners.

We have been on the edge a few times, so we are experts and dont need to learn anything other than improve - Clubs need to learn from us that you stick together in the times of need. We all know about our "Last day survivals" more than just the once any fans should have to go through, Plus we were like 5 points from safety with only 6 games to go, going into that chelsea game at Goodison in 2022 in early may. To be 5points behind with just 3 odd weeks of that season to go took some doing to come back from

All I know is that no one is too big to go down and the jackals in the press love to smell the scent of a giant carcass to feed upon.

A club like Tottenham shouldn't be in the position they're in. Neither should we have been. But at some point you've got to fight and unless Spurs do they could easily be wandering in the wilderness for a season or so.

I wouldnt say its easier but the odds on getting dragged into the trap door is getting more of a possibility as certain clubs deemed relegation candidates are now becoming established top flight clubs. Your Bournemouths and Brentfords not that long ago were clubs you looked at as your safety net if you were not doing well. Not now. Bournemouth spent over 100m last season.
Spurs up until this week had that vibe of a club who thought they were not in a relegation scrap. Even before last night i heard Spurs fans going oh we'll do Palace. Based on what lol.
When you've clubs who never ever spent big suddenly laying out 40 and 50m on players due to the money you get in the PL you better quickly drop that entitlement feeling.

What can we learn from this?

We've just been in this???
I guess the question is could Everton pull off another escape without Goodison Park? The people are mostly the same at BMD, but we’re all out of sync due to a loss of old routines and seat choices last summer. We’ve also got the challenge of Seat Unique diluting sections of the home crowd.

BMD is a bit sterile at the moment and it’s going to take a few years for it to bed in.

My kids have seen the Bournemouth and Palace games and the build up to them. Amazing atmosphere when we’re backed into a corner and we come out snarling, but I tell them to imagine what it would be like if we actually got our act together and had trophies at stake.

Right now, I think we could go one way or the other. We’re making progress but a poor summer transfer window or injuries could send us on a similar slide backwards like Spurs. Look at the mess Koeman’s second summer window caused us both on the pitch and transfer decisions which we had to pay for, for the next 5+ years.

Both clubs have been 2 down to Palace at HT in a dire situation. Ours was worse with Arse away to come.

What happened next? Their fans walked out. Ours rallied and helped the team to 3 points that guaranteed safety.

On top of that, they wanted to destroy the league and enrich themselves in the super league cartel.

Would love them to drop and stay there for a good while

People walked out in droves with 48 minutes on the clock against Brentford. The stadium win lose of draw tips out in night games well before the end.

The combination of terrible transport links and alienation form a stadium and its environment would send us hurtling into the Championship in any near future relegation campaign.

Spurs are seemingly spiralling out of control and the “cheese room” is more Dairylea than Neals Yard.

What can Everton learn from this?

Is the situation caused by over expansion or a focus on Europe? Has the constant Managerial changes made the club unstable?

Should we sign Richarlison? Anyone else?

Have they focused too much on corporate activity and the stadium?
Time honoured manager merry go round = decline.

Only Chelsea bucked this trend with Abramovich dodging UK 1bn+ tax to spend on high quality overseas footballers.

The Spurs stadium ( being admittedly pretty decent )
a) cost a lot, perhaps affecting team investment
b) seemed to equate to CL expectations

I think a) is understandable but b) has been toxic for their mgr plan, cos they've just been binning guys regularly for not being close to top 4.

If TFG are now spending cautiously then regular top half is ok, but fans deserve either some Euro games and/or cup runs in there.

Can't have too many more mis-steps with our business like current FBs, yet splashing huge £££s on Rohl, Jack and Dibling not kicking a ball.

We've been where they are, we did the same, we Dyche'd our way out of it.

They might have to do the same. I think they can once stay up, this fella hasn't got long to settle them though. And they've a grim record Vs RS, so it's gonna get worse before they can pick up any points... quite a few 6 pointers coming up haha .

Forgive me, I don't know the history of the Rugby union/ league reference...

Clear difference in the fanbase....

When we were in peril we came together and created an atmosphere that made it impossible for the players to let us down....

Their lot are leaving at half time.....

This is so spot on

On the whole they are pretty entitled in my opinion. Their fans getting pissed at Levy was always baffling to me. From an outsiders.perspective he's brought them to a new stadium, spends well, tried to appoint top managers, and negotiated well to hold on their best players for as long as possible. That they turned on him instead of Ange because they think the latter is a good bloke says it all to me.

Just don't have it right

…..I think it might be more of a case of what Spurs can learn from us than vice versa.

Yeah, the times we’ve been in this situation we appointed defensive pragmatic managers to get us out of it. Moyes in 02, Allardyce 18, Dyche 23. We also united as a fanbase each time around whoever was in charge during the run in.

Spurs could still appoint an Allardyce or Dyche tomorrow and they’d probably still squeak out of this now but the appointment of Tudor was baffling. The fans have also completely deserted the team walking out v Palace and booing them onto the pitch. Contrast that with the Everton fans 2 down at Palace, or the away fans at Leicester, when we went down to ten and one down v Spurs at home and came back, when we were down to ten v Newcastle at home and ended up winning.
