2025/26 David Moyes

I'm more confused now. You'd rather us not win a cup, to get a higher place in the league to help us to compete for a cup?

Look at the crap clubs that have won either domestic cup since we last won one. Even by law of averages we probably should have fluked one in 30 years, so I disagree there.

We should have won the Europa in 08 as well, but stupid tactics away in Florence put a stop to that.
I'd rather us not win a cup than have the subsequent fallout of Wigan, Swansea, Birmingham, Middlesbrough etc al. Cups aren't won on the law of averages they have typically been won by the better/best teams in the league.
We were beaten by Fiorentina over 2 legs as we weren't good enough - to then suggest we would have simply got through the QF, SF and a final is all a nice picture in our heads.

If Everton dont win a cup while Moyes is here second time around - and he leaves at the end of the two years he's under contract - he'll have been manager here for about 42% of the time we've been trophyless.

That's utterly damning for any manager of this club.

Rough calculation: that'd be about 45 competitions he'd have managed us in during those two periods in charge with nothing in return.

No doubt his little helpers will repeat Moyes' own pathetic defence that "Everton are a club looking to get safe every season and success or failure has to be determined by that."

Just hope that he puts us in a smilar position when he left first time, but now hopefully more money and ambition will help us to push on

Those clubs didn’t tumble down the leagues because they won cups, by the way. That isn’t the trade off.

Was desperate for Rangers and Everton to be drawn together in the 07/08 UEFA cup , we could have met in semi if they had got past
Fiorentina, we put Fiorentina out after two(Walter Smith masterclass!) 0-0 draws and then beating them on pens in Florence.

Lost the final in Manchester though! 🙁

Still think Zenit win that tournament regardless even if we had made it to the final.

I actually think our biggest trophy chance was the FA Cup under Martinez. Lukaku with a penalty to see us past a poor United team with Palace waiting in the final. Lukaku misses the pen, a ton of one on ones, and then Martial scores a late one and United go on to win the cup. That for me was the biggest lost opportunity.

09 Chelsea were miles better than us and we were missing our three best players down the spine of the team. We wouldn’t have beaten Chelsea in 2012 either had we won the semi final that year.

Lukaku’s penalty miss was at 0-1, we equalised about 5 minutes later anyway.

I would actually rather qualify for the Champions League than win a cup. The reason is it brings in massive revenue which gives the team a platform to build and achieve further success.

It would be a much bigger deal than winning the League Cup. The FA Cup is special, so that would be a harder decision.

Ultimately though, I think you get more benefits from Champions League qualification than winning a cup. It raises the club’s profile on an international level, and that is more important than ever in the modern game.

Yeah, Zenit were a strong side that year, agree that the Martinez FA Cup was there for the taking.

Rough calculation, besides the league championship, the fa cup and the league cup, Mr Moyes has also failed in 42 other competitions.

Where's the Benin amateur locals only cup Mr Moyes?
And there must be a competition in Japan he's responsible for not taking serious.
