2025/26 Thierno Barry

Always felt he was an odd signing in that Moyes, in his entire career, with the exception of maybe Jelavic - has never signed a striker who hasn't played in the Prem before and got something out of them.

Early days, but have to be honest - I wouldn't have signed him based on anything we've seen.

A decent few months at Villarreal proves nothing to me.

His nerd charts shown he won the lot in the air in La Liga, I've seen that here by way of flick ons etc but not in an attacking sense.

Ultimately, we can't rely on him to provide any worthwhile benchmark of goals and I'm not sure he has the temperament to constructively wait. Instagram antics, kicking ball away, sulking. Some players need to play, and play through it but we're not a charity.

Moyes does him no favours either.

Would I sell him if we got offered what we paid for him? All day. Same with Beto.

£10 million Barry and £5 million Beto — get them sold. People are kidding themselves if they think - with clubs having seen their performance this season - we'd get a whole lot more than that for them.

Not sure we can be so conclusive on Barry in particular.

Players can/do take time to adjust - playing style is a big'un as well. Last season we played differently which benefited Beto/on the shoulder. We're now a lot more patient in our build up which doesn't suit Beto at all.

If I was responsible for transfers I'd have kept Calvert-Lewin and paid him the salary just to avoid losing on a free, and signed some pace out wide;

Don't get the hostility, me.

A lot of it I figured was around expecting/inevitability feeling of him getting off. "He's crap anyway"

If I was him, I wouldn't have signed the contract either. We must have been the worst team in the league for years for a striker. People here slating Dyche/negative football, and in the same breath slate a number 9 who doesn't fancy it. C'mon...

He'll definitely have offers, undoubtedly.

If we've now convinced him, tremendous. We're selling Beto. They want silly money for Broja - we'll have a very handy, rotational/backup striker in Calvert-Lewin. They won't bank on him to play 30+ games, that's for sure.

It would be a travesty to lose such a PSR friendly 'asset' for zilch.

We've been experts over the years at setting players up the fail - none more so than him. Get some pace in the squad, and ability to pass forward or cross a bloody ball and he's a big asset to the team.

... We'd still have needed a striker, but keeping Beto when moving to a more possession based game and backing a long term prospect in Barry? Yikes.

His aerial wins are really no different than DCL's in his last 3 years. Yes it's great, but there's no one around him to take advantage.

It's clear, from his play and his highlight reels, that's he's more comfortable in space than he is in the middle. When in space he can turn people and his lack of foot quickness isn't as apparent. They're trying to make him a center forward, and he's never really played that way.

I also believe, given the number 9 shirt, that Beto was expected to lead the line, which was a nice thought but unrealistic given his ability.

I'll also say it's not like he's missing tons of big chances. Yes he's missed a few, but the misses seem more noteworthy because there are so few chances he's getting.

Yes, you'd like a striker to move and create chances, but that same criticism was leveled at DCL while he was here and now he's scoring goals. Did he just figure out how to create chances himself, or is it the team and the setup creating chances for him?

At any rate, none of the realities (or excuses) are relevant, we need goals. As an attacking side, we are broken (again), and everyone in the attacking 4 has a hand in it.

I’d take ½ what we paid for each them, but notwithstanding the purplest of purple patches, can’t see anyone paying that and matching their wages unfortunately.

Barry’s supposedly gone from £20k per week to over £50k, i’d imagine Beto is similar % wage increase if not actually money, so can’t see European clubs rushing to hand our equivalent contracts, so ther will be little incentive for them to go elsewhere either…..

They'll be loaned out to French and Turkish teams respectively, on our dime.

Im not sure why we've slowed the build up down. Is it purely to account for Grealish?

I dont think it helps anyone else and not sure how it helps the team.

Quick counters should be more effective with our players. Perhaps that helps Barry too as we know it suits Beto.

I think we're definitely trying to retain the ball more this season, less direct.
