News of Ex Players

Made up for Simms, especially. Found it hard going there, seems like he’s on the bench for the most part, so this could be the shot in the arm his career needs to really get going.
Ellis has always been a slow burner, it seemed to me he was about two years behind Gordon for instance. I have a conviction that in his mid/late 20s his star will burn brightly in the PL with a double digit goal return , causing someone to pay massively over the odds for him , probably us.

From reading the main Coventry forum quite a bit, he seems to still have some of the same problems that he had here - doesn’t use his size to his advantage, not aggressive enough and can go missing in games.

They’d have happily sold him a month a go.

Looks like he’s only been starting for the last 4 or 5. Makes the PotM award all the more impressive, but seems far from a guaranteed starter there up to now. Hopefully he’ll kick on from here and work on his all round game.

Indeed , last season they wanted him gone too, and he’s almost anti - Coventry given the slick, fast style Lampard gets them playing when they’re on fire. His progress is slow , but at last he’s scoring goals regularly with his head now. I hope they stick with him if they’re promoted.

Can't see it myself, think he looked really passive especially off the ball at prem level. But good luck to him, he's had and will have a really decent career

Don't care what anyone says, for me he was a genuine world class player for a good few seasons. Would not have swapped him for any LB going

…..don’t think many would argue with that, he was a class act was Baines. Even those of us who had the pleasure of watching Pat VdH and Ray Wilson rate Baines as a top drawer LB, a joy to watch.

Much more hope than conviction. Ellis Simms along with Callum Connally, will long be two of my favourite Ex-players purely from watching them from 16 year olds, knowing there was something missing that meant they never be PL players with us but loving them for the effort they put in. Both exceeded the expectations I had of them as 16 year olds, well maybe I hoped Connolly would go a tad higher. Unlike that Rooney bloke , easy to see he was the best 16 year old ever, should have won the Balon d’Or with his talent.

So many youngsters “ plateau “, you see it time and time again across the whole of world football.

You even see it at amateur level, where a 14/16 yr old is single handily bossing the midfield or destroying teams.

Then all of a sudden they don’t develop any further and seem to stand still.

This seems to be the difference between players that just keep getting better and develop as they get older and lads who reach a certain level and stay there.
