The Ashes 2025

The games not actually over yet though, as frustrated as the likes of Vaughan are why not at least publically back them and say Stokes could pull something out of his arse tomorrow and give the bowlers something to play for. Doesn't really help anyone laying into them 10 minutes after play on day 3.
He was scathing after the failure of test one. To rabble up and do the same and cop a whooping in the same manner and in some parts worse is astounding. If it was one or two players then it'd be possible to shuffle the pack, but it's rotten to the core. An inability to face the issue is arrogance beyond excuse. They could do with boycott on a loop in the cinema clockwork orange style.
"Take your time, don't give your wicket away, leave what you can, defend where you have to!"
Three or four million times, hours and hours of torture. Make them suffer. See if that gets the message through. Maybe they'd be better off sewing or knitting or playing tiddlywinks.

Interesting thing and I'm trying not to come across like a smart arse or head patter etc but it wasn't so long ago McCullum and this bazball (I hate that stupid term) was being collectively sucked off by the English cricketing world. Now all you want (understandably) is a return to sensible test match playing.
It works in the one day where aggressive scoring is required. But tests are five days.

Its effective against many test sides in the world, and can be exciting for the modern tik-tok brainless generation who have the concentration of a gnat, hence why it was heralded.

I have always preferred proper test match style play in a test match - one day stuff/limited overs do me for the swing and miss, high wicket turnover, try and club every delivery for 6 itch.

8/10 times this shiz doesn’t work against anyone half decent in a test, including Oz.

Innings gone, day gone, match gone, series effectively gone. Time to talk about the hierarchy;

Stokes, McCullum, Key have a lot to answer for (and they won’t be able to). I’m struggling to see where they can go for a replacement captain. Joe Root again for a couple of years to see out his career? Is Harry Brook really going to be someone to lead the team when his attitude to batting in this series reflected the reason for changing the leadership in the first place? And the rest of the players…who is under threat of being dropped exactly? Is there anyone other than Bethell waiting in the wings? Abject failure of any longevity.
He's a player groomed by this current leadership because he embodies their ethos. But there are lots of players who have earned a place in this team who have been denied a chance because their method doesn't fit.

Even more disappointing is seeing players in good form adapting their style to fit Bazball and suffering for it.

You're right. Vaughan is a sleekit individual as well say up north.
But Stokes is no Botham and he doesn't have Graham Dilley at the other end.

Not. It's hugely situational and clearly forces results, but mostly it's been questioned as a method since it's foundation. People welcomed the mentality change that sought to win rather than draw, but there's always been criticism/skepticism about the way they show no game awarewness or accountabity.

"4 years prep for this, 4 years. What have they prepared, where's the sub keeper? why no warm up matches to get a feel for conditions?"

I know why no warm up games, a committee has sat around and dreamed up a scenario where to keep everyone fit and out of the realm of injury one and two day games were overlooked to coddle the crocks. If the fitness is in question, take someone else. There's no room for sicknotes.

It's all so poor, house of cards planning, waste of time and waste of an event. Would be better off going down with a side all aged 20 and losing 5-0 than this shower hyped up and getting spanked 5-0. The former gets some experience and fire into the bellies, if they don't like it, off you go. There's players queuing up for a taste of the high life, if you want the crash bang wallop one day bash stuff, fill your boots. Want something more studious and trying, here it is.

Needs a clear out.

Fair enough, I obviously don't follow, watch and read about the English cricket side as much as everyone else on here. Just seemed like a lot of OTT stuff claiming it was the saviour of test cricket etc etc.

Other than the Perth day 1 bowling effort, this England team have displayed nothing to uphold any degree of optimism in their performance.
