2025/26 Thierno Barry

Last season calvert lewin. This season barry. Its you isnt joey. You're the club scout.
I need to go back and check the chermiti thread and see if you were all over him.
You die on some hills you.
He may improve if he gets a goal - we spent a fair sum for this guy - Both Beto & Barry do not have the skill set as DCL who has scored 2 & made a pen - his injuries finished him off & greed for big wages ...
More service with Nydaye & Grealish this season too - we struggle to score in games tbh ....

Gonna need to see him burn about a dozen clear one-on-ones before I can start comparing him to DCL in that regard. His work in the air and link up play is as good as Dom’s was already though.

He’s getting maybe one half-chance a match at the moment. He is fighting for confidence but his teammates don’t have confidence in him either so the early balls are never coming. In the meantime though he clearly makes us better than Beto and should continue playing as many minutes as possible. One goal could open up into a few quickly.
He will have to start making some actual intelligent runs if he’s going to get a one on one

Simply not good enough at the moment. Whether he will become a suitable option next season remains to be seen but this signing was a shocker.

I will stick with the lad and hope he turns it around but his lack of composure in front of goal and lack of threat in front of goal is up there with the worst i've ever seen for us.

Beto has a lot of faults but he at least carries a goal threat. We saw that with his goal at Wolves and with the Palace header where Grealish ended up scoring as 2 examples. And some he just hasn't quite got on the end of like City away. Barry is diabolical in front of goal. We need to sign a proper striker in January but whether we will is a different matter. I'd be looking to sell one of these 2 in the summer.

There definitely is a world in which that happens. I think he looks like a decent footballer in a general sense and he’s got some good points, it’s definitely not out of the question that he shows himself to be a decent PL player. He doesn’t look like a goal scorer though and that’s an issue for us at the moment. Turn him into someone who can score 10 and add more players who can score around him and he could work out but I’d be surprised if he turns out to be a 15 goal a season player because he just hasn’t shown how those goals would come.
Frustrated for him with that chance today. The ball broke quickly and he was on it in a flash, and in a split second chose the right finish with the dink but it clips the keeper’s fod. That goes in and a fair few in here are very excited at where he goes from there.

On the flip side he’s probably got enough for a Chrimbo blooper reel of his own from the season so far.

I know logic dictates it’s not gonna go the way we want it to, but I feel like we’re due a pleasant surprise in the striking department after Beto briefly turning into prime R9 last year, and then cruelly turning back into Beto.

His general play has improved a lot since he started. It looked like he hit a lovely chipped finish but was unlucky to hit the keeper. I think he just needs one to go in and his confidence will grow. It would help if created some chances for him like. He has missed a few but strikers have a tendency to snatch at them if they are fed on scraps.

All 3 might just be very average mate. There isnt much shown to think otherwise.
I think we've done our dough with Barry. I thought that very early on.
I'd like to see the lad score because i think it would mean a lot to him.
But im not convinced it opens the floodgates.
Poor scouting again by the club.

Keep playing an actual 10 closer to him like tonight….and we score more goals.

Said it a few weeks ago…our issue is we dont play a 10 when kdh plays it…its a 433….meaning too big a gap between midfield and striker….

Play a natural 10, and we will see that gap closed…and more play, and 2nd chances happening.

Doesn’t help him that Grealish and N’Diaye both want lots of touches rather than playing an early ball in, as his movement in the box is actually alright.

And his link up play is certainly much better, and he is contributing. BUT..

He’s very uncomfortable running with the ball. Isn’t great at attacking crosses given his height, doesn’t have great body strength. And his shooting is.. well actually I have no idea, it’s getting near Xmas and I haven’t seen him strike a ball.

How many more games before we try Beto again?

What’s Dibbling got to do with it? The lads 19 and hardly been given a chance. Dibbling will come good and we’ll see more of him once Ndiaye goes to the cup of nations
Hes not even getting 5 mins in most games. Mcneil will start ahead of in Jan. Dibling won't go from no game time to starting will he. 40m for a bench player who barely plays is not acceptable

Really needs one to go in off his arse atm, think he tries too hard at times and loses composure as a result. Although his all round play does help our attack big time and he showed some nice touches - desperately unlucky not to score the chip as he did pretty much everything right from the first touch to the shot, keeper did well to stand tall. I feel like as soon as that first one goes in he'll start to really flourish with that weight off his shoulders

I would say it's unfair to say that he isn't contributing or is offering nothing, as I say his hold up play is very good and he's an absolute beast in the air which takes a ton of pressure off the midfield and backline now that the ball isn't constantly coming back when we clear or are forced to go long

The scoop finish that blasted its way out off the stadium would have made Harald Brattbakk jealous!

Not having the word ‘finish’ for the things we saw tonight sorry. They’re shots, or efforts or whatever. A finish goes in or agonisingly wide something, it’s not a finish if you boot it into the keepers head from a yard away or smash it out of the stadium!
