2025/26 Seamus Coleman

Christ on a bike
I dont think he should be starting PL games
All I ever said was he's a good squad player to have.
Ancelotti, Lampard, Moyes all sing his praises
but nooo
MikeH72 and Nymzee think he should have been binned off years ago.

And all we've ever said is he should have been replaced years ago. Not sure why you struggle so much with comprehension.

"Speaking at his press conference ahead of Sunday’s crucial clash with Hungary in Budapest, Hallgrimsson said of Coleman: “I think in general, in life, and all people – and it applies to football – there are two kinds of people: people that are vacuums and people that are batteries, that will give energy, will give joy, will give enthusiasm.

“But that’s probably the biggest compliment I can give to anyone in life – he is the biggest battery I have worked with in a football team.

“Really, he is a man that loves his country and will do anything, not only to shine himself, but to get the best out of everyone around him.”

He also loves Everton and has shown loyalty to the Club when others had their heads turned and looked to get away.

I'm Irish - Seamus has done us proud in many ways over his career, but it is undeniable that we needed to replace him at least five years ago. The fact that we didn't leaves us in our current position of playing an honest, willing centre-half out-of-position at right back while Seamus can't get in the side.

Coleman's reputation and honesty was used by the club as an excuse for failing to invest. His popularity with fans made it easy to neglect his position in times of straitened funds. O'Brien, similarly, is currently being used. A young, honest player trying to make his way has been hung out to dry this season by the latest refusal to address the right-back position.

Fans need to wake up. These two Irish players have been nothing but honourable for Everton. But the powers-that-be have taken advantage of them to the extent that many of us are sick to death of Seamus (through no fault of his own) and throwing brickbats at O'Brien for not being Cafu when he is a centre-half who went beyond the call of duty.

Great post.

Just watched his pre match interview on RTE 2 and he was so professional down to earth.

No excuses made or whinging.

Panel agreeing. Best player against Portugal (away match) until we took him off.

'the players want him there...he is like a coach on the pitch...defenders switch off and make mistakes but since he came in there is a noticeable difference in their levels".

RS Hamann ' he was fantastic. Ironically Ireland lost the game when he came off...since he had come in they're a different team. What was lacking before was leadership. Players who make other players better..
If Ireland go through today I'll hold it down to him. They are a different team".
