Everton Youth Teams Thread

Will be interesting to see the longer term consequences for Ireland of their best prospects having to sit around until 18 before they come over.

They may get bigger transfers fees and more hype but the kids themselves are having to spend more time under worse coaches against worse opposition than in PL2.

From a glance it looks like they're struggling post brexit anyway.

At first I thought it was probably a bad change that occured but to be fair, I reckon I'd rather my best U18's prospects play men's Irish footie than be in our U18's playing zero impact games in the academy league.

….from what I remember, Plymouth knocked us out at home last season which was a big disappointment (for me).
Yes I thought it was last season when we got knocked out of the FA youth cup and that was a big disappointment for me as well Eggs, although we were lucky to beat Wolves in the previous round. I take it then that this game is our first game in this season’s tournament.

Completely agree. AI came up with this list. No mention of Duncan Ferguson though 🤣

You are correct about Puskás being a great footballer and striker but he wasn’t the centre forward in that great Hungarian team, that honour belonged to Hidegkuti who played as the deep lying centre forward in that marvellous set up and he scored three in that famous 6-3 victory over England at Wembley in 1953(?) with Puskas scoring two.

Later on Man.City had Don Revie playing very sucessfully in that role in the mid fifties.

I'd be inclined to go the other way just because of the difference in levels. I'd say Graham for example benefitted more by having the extra 18 months here than if he'd been forced to stay in Ireland like Melia. That and I really don't value competitive football that much at thar age.

Where this might change in the future is LOI clubs are now seemingly in a much better negotiating position for fees. If they can reinvest that money in to coaches, facilities and better players then it could swing the other way but that's probably years off.

The league of Ireland is not worse than PL2
