2025/26 Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

I really rate this lad, and he was immense against Fulham, my one criticism is I wish he would get over his man-crush with Grealish. His out-ball is 90% to Jack and that becomes predictable. Its not like we haven't got a quality player to pass to on the right wing, but he seems obsessed with getting the ball to Jack?

….i’ve said this on multiple occasions, but quality footballers (at any level) tend to link with quality footballers, even subconsciously. He also works down the left channel more (as he has throughout his career).

There were a few occasions where there was a man free on the right and he didn't play them in, even with Ndiaye waving his hands at him. He definitely favours the left which backs up the idea he's a left sided 8 rather than a ten

…..more than a no10, he goes where he can affect the game;

In the Fulham game it was like they were bezzy mates in school, and would only pass the ball to each other.

Not bad to have a proper telepathic connection between players as we've been missing that for a long time, couple times it bordered on being silly though - better options available.

If you think about the patterns of attacking play, that side of the pitch is going to have Grealish, Dewsbury-Hall and Mykolenko as the players most often in areas to receive the ball. Personally I'd much rather Grealish and Dewsbury-Hall were passing between each other than using Mykolenko too often for very obvious reasons.

On the other side of the pitch, Saturday was a welcome change that the full back being given the ball wasn't the death knell of any attacking impetus. Just needs an understanding to develop between Ndiaye, Garner and whoever we decide is going to give us most as the right-sided number 8

I do agree that a couple of good fullbacks who are comfortable contributing when we have the ball or making runs to occupy our defenders will make a big difference to our more forward thinking midfielders/attacking players.

Best game for ages from him feel was alot more balance in the midfield as we had more players pushing forward. Like the first goal with tim then gana getting it after with both getting in the box. Has been a problem in the midfield as kdh been just isolated in that 10 and has looked lost felt moyes played more of a three and it got the best out of everyone

Thats a valid point Eggs, but quality footballers (in my experience) send the ball where it will be most effective, if KDH insists on passing to Jack 75% of the time, it makes the oppositions marking a whole lot easier? Like I say, I am not slagging the lad off, I think he has been an excellent signing so far, I just wish he would look around more before passing. As I said in my original post we have a quality player on either wing.

We need an actual number 6 as a Gana replacement. Iroegbunam and KDH are number 8s. Röhl and Armstrong are a little more versatile, but both also seem to be comfortable as number 8s, so a 433 seems to be the most natural system for us to play, we just lack a proper sitting number 6. Gana tries to be that sometimes, but it's never been his forte. I wouldn't call Gana a left-sided midfielder. He's played on the left of the two in midfield in a 4231 at times, but I don't think he's naturally attracted to that side of the pitch like KDH is.

Cba to find it but i had posted in 2023.

DM: Onana
LCM: KDH (to sign)
RCM: Garner

I wanted us to sign KDH back then. Totally agree with bringing in a 6 and setting up with those 2 CMs.

Garner & Armstrong can also each play as a 6 if that works.

Up there with RB with as big a miss this summer.

If we can drop ~60m total on a top class RB and 6 over the next couple windows we'll immediately look so, so much better.

Interesting that Moyes wanted Tete & Palhinha then didnt sign a RB or a DM.

I could understand it if he was on the left in a 3, would be natural to look wide to Grealish in that case.

But its been the same all season and it doesnt seem like it will change anytime soon. If we had our right central midfielder doing the same it would be utterly predictable.

I agree, but I'd also point out that he spends most of the time on the left hand side of the pitch, so Grealish is going to be a natural passing combination there. I actually don't think this is a bad thing, they're both very intelligent players and in this system they're going to be close to each other. What we need to do is to get a similar relationship going between Ndiaye and whoever our right-sided number 8 is (whether that's Iroegbunum, Rohl, Garner or even Armstrong at some point).

In my post above I just said that would be predictable. The play needs to be mixed and it can really slow the play with KDH and Grealish.

Its been obvious since he signed that he shouldnt be and couldnt be a 10.

Also in the poll i made he got around 3% of the vote as a 10. So almost anyone could see it, game after game.

Hopefully Moyes has realised this.

Its been tiring to read certain posters saying KDH has been "fantastic" all season when he has not been effective. Constantly praising Moyes for everything.

The points dropped so far are astonishing with this failed experiment.

Hopefully now thats the end of it, now were seeing Moyes praised for something that was obvious to most aside from the Moyes bum kissers.

People are acting like heavily favoring one side of the field as a no. 10 is a good thing. It is not. If KDH had played Ndiaye through in the 1st instead of Barry that is a free goal. We either brute force teams like we did at the weekend or the play tends to stagnate.

We need to be less predictable. Try to create from open play and get more than jammy goals. KDH does everything else right. He would be perfect if he had that ounce of vision and a through ball. He has not shown it this far. That is what he needs to add if he wants to be a long term solution.

Just been up and down really like the sunderland game started well and then his levels dropped. I am glad moyes has finally done it and have called moyes out, do think moyes gets credit becuase i did call for alcaraz in that position. But against fulham having tim in the mid made a massive difference was alot of energy and looking to get forward

Because he’s playing in the inside left channel most of the time and is very strongly left footed. It makes it hard to do anything else when you’re positioning yourself like that.
