Relegation Thread 25-26

Every manager plays percentage football. They will pick the team they feel gives them the best chance of winning based on their perceived strengths and weaknesses and that of the opposition.
Percentage football is defensive football where the theory is you keep a clean sheet whilst nicking a goal to win the game. The best managers generally are proactive so not all managers play percentage football but trust their attacking players to win matches so they have more freedom in their play

Managers pick the team that they think gives them the best chance to get something out the game. The best players give you a higher chance of success. Asking good players to do exactly the same tactically as excellent players for example will ordinarily result in the "excellent" players winning more often than not. Any manager can tell a team to go out and "express yourselves" in majority of cases it will result in them not achieving good outcomes like Russell Martin for example.

Have you seen what Iraola is doing at Bournemouth without the best players? That's the kind of manager I'd want. The Elche manager looks promising from what I've read about him so if we have any forward vision that's the type of coach we should be looking at to take us beyond the steady eddie management of Moyes

Bunch of bedwetters. Last three have been City away - not expecting anything there without Jack, Spurs home - probably a point dropped, and an in form Sunderland away which we could have won but for a bit of luck/composure.

There’s nothing giving me the concern we had during the latter Dyche era. Get a grip.
We can't keep a clean sheet or score goals not a concern?

I think we're looking at 4 points from the next 4 games and dropping a place or two in the table.

Three of them have to come from Fulham, btw. If we dont beat Fulham it'll be worse.

Even in that latter scenario though it's inconceivable we'll be relegated.

Relegation is not something we as a club will have to face while we have this ownership in place. That's what it looks like to me in any case.
We won't beat Fulham.

Well that's Beto and Barry sorted then! 😄

We won't beat Fulham.
We have to.

If we dont, we'll almost certainly lose the following three and we could be cemented in the relegation fight.

My guess is we'll get 4 points from the next 4 games. Starting with 3 on Saturday and maybe taking a point at home off Newcastle as they'll have played away in the CL a few days earlier.

We need some momentum for the rest of this month.

This idea of CL teams being a target for points was sunk by Spurs. Fulham move the ball quickly from the back (a lesson for us) and they'll press from the off. Be lucky if we keep it to two clear goals.

The Palace game underlined it was true that playing away in Europe midweek affects teams. The Spurs game was all about not defending from set pieces.

It's not inconceivable, we can't score any goals and we have a paper thin squad.
