Players out on loan 2025/26

A good away point for Lincoln at high flying Bradford. Francis Okoronkwo was brought on for the last 5 minutes as Lincoln held on for a 0-0 draw. They are 5th.

A valuable point also for Isaac Heath's Accrington. He played the full 90 in their 1-1 draw at home to Tranmere. Accrington are 21st.

….interesting from Jordan Pickford;

Jordan: The loans I would say now if any goalkeeper can have an opportunity to go on loan and play in the lower leagues it will be more beneficial than youth team football. You are playing a proper game, there's a lot more pressure that you thrive off and you learn and mature more as a goalkeeper. It is probably the best thing that happened to me going on all those loans. I'll never forget when I was on loan at Preston, I was doing really well and big Sam [Allardyce] called me back and gave me a new contract and I made my debut in the FA Cup against Arsenal in the same week. A week later I made my Premier League debut, I was sat on the bench for the rest of the season but it was another good experience as well. The year after Vito Mannone got injured and that is where I grabbed the opportunity with both hands.’

A few years ago I was surprised at how we were sending young goalkeepers to play in quite low leagues , but it makes sense. Virginia had a torrid time in the Championship on loan when he was too young, Harry Tyrer started quite low and progressed. Currently we have Fraser Barnsley and Gospel-Eze playing way down the leagues and doing quite well. My take on it is Pickford’s potential was always higher than those mentioned hence he didn’t drop too low , but it is difficult to convince managers to play young goalkeepers at higher levels because , well they inevitably make costly mistakes . Tyrer, Barnsley and Gospel-Eze are all likely to get deals in the future based on their loan experiences, not with us but at an appropriate level.

As an aside, this season I’ve been watching a 16 year old goalkeeper on loan from a professional club playing non-league and his progress in 4 months has been fantastic. His agility and reactions are what you’d expect at 16 , but having been clattered about by men a few times he’s now much more dominating in his own area . The loan is really working for him

Pickford played non-league on loan mate

Mixed day for the loanees.

A good away win for injury hit Preston at Southampton. Harrison Armstrong was involved in the build up as Preston took a first half lead through Lewis Dobbin. He was taken off in the 92nd minute with his side still 1-0 up. Preston added another in stoppage time to finish 2-0 winners. They go up to 6th. 8.5 out of 10 from the Evening Post: "Immense again from the Everton loan man. He was everywhere and led from the front with his intensity towards the end."

Tyler Onyango started and was taken off after 75 minutes with his Stockport side 2-1 up away to Tranmere in the Cup. Stockport went on to win 3-1.

Francis Okoronkwo and Martin Sherif both went out of the Cup. Okoronkwo came on for Lincoln at Salford with 8 minutes of extra time remaining and the score 1-1. The game went to penalties but he didn't get to take one as 2 of his team mates missed and Lincoln lost the shoot out.

Martin Sherif was back in the Rotherham squad and entered the field after 58 minutes with his side 1-0 up at home to Swindon. Swindon equalised and despite having a man sent off, they won the game with a goal in extra time.
