2025/26 David Moyes

Not going for the win against a very poor Wolves team was a disaster.
We were on a high confidence in both the team and fans was high.
We havnt really been the same as before that game.
Bad own goal by Moyes and one of are only chances yo win anything squandered as well.
Cup runs are always good for overall morale. I remember a similar downturn in results when we lost to Fulham when Onana did that disgraceful casual penalty

Who organises our defence for attacking and defending set pieces? We seem to be missing a massive piece of the jigsaw there

Brentford tormented the RS with them, Slot admits they aren't coping with the increased reliance on them in the PL and Arsenal sit pretty on top of the league with more set piece goals than open play.

Why do I always feel our club walks around with only one eye open

The set pieces have been terrible offensively for a while (offside goal yesterday aside) . We’ve got an absolutely massive team yet pose absolutely zero threat from any set piece whatsoever. Even random crosses into the box would be more dangerous than our corners but we seem to somehow hit every single one nowhere near any Everton player. I don’t know why there isn’t anyone at Everton who can hit a corner someone actually has a chance at heading. O’Brien’s disallowed goal yesterday is the first time this season we hit a cross anywhere near a player in blue at a set piece.

This has been driving me crackers for years. Even our throw ins are laughable, amateur.

Garner has been crap, every taker we have is crap tbh.

Has Grealish had a go at taking them? Did he take them for city?

The throw ins are something else. Every other team just picks up the ball and throws it easily to one of their team mates every time no questions asked. We spend ages agonising where to throw it and then either lash it down the line or throw it dead hard at someone coming short who immediately knocks it out of play.

Moyes certainly isn't the only issue but he is an issue. He plays the same 11 whenever they are available, doesn't change tactics when a game plan isn't working, only makes like for like substitutions and even then only late in the game, and was one of the much vaunted transfer committee that has left us without players in key positions. I'm sorry if you find that analysis "tiresome" but diversity of opinion is the whole point of a forum.

He plays the same 11 because we don't have a good squad outside of it. The only one I'd make a case to include right now is Alcaraz.

I agree with you about him being stubborn and not changing game plans with like for like substitutions. That's always been a factor with him. The most he ever changed was taking off Cahill and going 2 up top for most of his time here.

I definitely think there's got to be a bigger story behind this window and how we ended up spending most of the money on 2 players he refuses to use. How much of that is on Moyes and how much is on others is a complete unknown but I do generally lean to assuming he was heavily involved as that has always typically been the case.

I'm still really surprised we haven't replaced Charlie Adam with another set piece coach, we must be one of the only clubs without one.

Other teams generally have competent players in every position.
We have at least 3 that don't need marking so the opposition can double up on the likes of ndiaye

Not sure he made much difference when he was here.

Set pieces haven’t been much of a problem defensively for us probably since Silva, most of the managers have been pretty good at organising them. The issue has been offensively, we had a few slight purple patches under Ancelotti and Dyche where we scored a few, but other than that it’s been nothing.

In fairness to Charlie Adam he devised the Beto goal v Liverpool at Goodison and then we’ve never seen a trained move ever since. Absolutely classic Everton.

Charlie Adam wasn't really a proper set piece coach though, I'm talking about it being high time we got a proper one of board, our backroom team is fairly small atm, Moyes had a huge setup behind him at West Ham for example.
