Our next striker

I’d have that Strand Larsen from Wolves when they go down, personally
I too would have him, under the assumption that Wolves are destined to go down. However, their relegation is by no means a guarantee and they still probably have just enough quality to survive if they can string a few results together. That being said they look like relegation candidates under Pereira, so they would probably need to sack him first.

It is also worth bearing in mind that we would almost certainly face competition from other teams for his signature, in the event of a Wolves relegation. Newcastle were keen to sign him in the summer until they signed Woltemade and Wissa, having been knocked back by Wolves. Surely other clubs would want to take a look at him given the scarcity of strikers available at present.

We'd need to buy a forward who suits our style, or, is adaptable enough to play various styles. Moyes's comments about Beto needing to adapt hints at our problems. Having said that, you have to look at Moyes and ask why he's not trying to use what Beto is good at. I.e. running in behind.

I'd be looking more at why we signed Barry who plays the same as Beto.

I feel this is a discussion that we need to have being that we are coming to November with 1 singular league goal from our strikers. This is separate to the transfer window threads as I don't expect us to resolve this issue in January.

Beto and Barry do not appear to be going to score any goals any time soon and once again it looks like we are going to be having to enter the market for a striker.

Does anyone have any names to throw around?

I'd imagine we have a couple of criteria:

  1. They've already scored some goals in a decent league.
  2. They're hopefully younger 20-24 and signing a five year contract.
  3. They're probably going to have to have some physicality and be able to challenge in the air as a lot of what we create is from crosses.
  4. They'll need good hold up play and to be able to play up top alone.

On paper you can see why the scouts identified Barry as he checks all of these boxes but it does not seem to be working out so far early into his Everton career.

If we are able to cut our losses on either Barry or Beto, who is there around the world that we could bring in to score goals for Everton?

Perhaps we can use this thread to keep tabs on potential suggestions over the season.

Not sure Barry actually meets your criteria above as much as you think.

1. Was it 10 goals for Villareal? Very limited track record
2. He's 23 so upper end of your age range
3. He's one of the least physical strikers I've ever seen!
4. Tbc. He has some nice touches so far but jury still out on "hold up play"

I think it's turning out unfortunately to be a bad move but I do think this is some of their thinking.

Any goalscorer with more than 10 goals in a decent league is getting easily past 40 million asking price these days.

What he showed at Villareal hasn't been much at all like what I've seen so far here.

Do we even have strikers in the U21’s / U18’s?
Maybe I’m showing my age now, or I do give a fudge any more, but we don’t hear anything of any younger players? Tom Cannon, Ellis Simms and Dobbin had decent pr even if they ended up never making it here.

Go and get both Toney and Mitrovic ffs. Both would jump at the chance to join us if they're not happy in the Middle East. They've made about £30m each in wages, so might fancy heading back this way soon.

If we can't get them, go and ask Dyche about Chris Wood if he's not in his thoughts, absolutely miles better than the two waste of space strikers we've currently got.

Our academy was ransacked for any quality for a while during the period we looked to be relegation favourites on a hiding to nothing but I don't know if we have a striker version of Armstrong's quality hiding in the youth levels.

We only have one promising out-and-out striker in the U18's (Ray Robert) but he's very young. Braiden Graham is by far our biggest academy prospect right now (IMO) but his final position is still to be determined as he's very small.
