Remembering Bill Kenwright

I know a lot of people did not like him, but let me tell the truth about him. When he lived in Liverpool I lived near to him. I can tell you there is no bigger blue than him, his mum and dad advised him not to buy Everton because of the hassle he would get, but he went ahead anyway. About 3 or maybe 4 years ago I had a long conversation on the phone with him and believe me he put a huge amount of time and money in the club, on occasions at that time money he did not always have. He hardly ever missed a match, driving up from London for nearly every game, he really was a true blue. Yes when he sold the club he did make some money but he only bought the club to get it away from Johnson because he was unhappy with the way it was going. I know for a fact he very often gave tickets away for free and he did a lot of work for charity. Rest in peace Bill and I for one will always remember you.

His heart was in the right place (undisclosed charitable donations, helping a lot of people in need) but his ego using Everton as a train set he didn't want to leave tarnished his legacy as a chairman.

Could have been in Man City's position and at kings dock.

RIP Bill

Well done, mate. You might well get a lot of flak for this, but you did what you thought was right and you've told the truth as you see it. You should be proud of yourself.

Kenwright was a great promoter of the club and obviously loved it dearly, perhaps too much that it turned into my precious and stopped him seeing the wood from the trees.

It was a sad ending for all concerned.

If you take away the running of the football club, Bill was a compassionate man and did some very good things in his time on this planet.

My opinion of him hasn't changed at all. A dreadful chairman who destroyed this club in ways that I'm not sure we can ever truly recover from. I could go on forever about the damage he did all for the sake of his own ego because he saw the club as his personal toy train set and piggyback. All the rewriting of history from his acolytes won't change that.

RIP to the guy and I feel nothing but sympathy for his loved ones, but lets not start rewrite history. It'll only cause more hatred and resentment.

He was on the board with Peter Johnson , he also pushed the idea of Howard returning for a third time which was almost a disaster.

I have no issues with personal experiences with the man, it was always about Everton as a football club for me and in my opinion his period at the club went on far too long and it felt more like a social club than a football club that wanted to achieve something. You only have to listen to some, you would be forgiven to think that there was a long successful period in the clubs history.

This man seems to be talked about more than John Moores and Philip Carter.

The original thread for Kenwright had to be locked because his acolytes couldn't cope with the fact that the people had finally seen through him and his act. If you want the man to RIP, then let him alone and move on. Stop expecting the rest of us to gush over him. The more you try to rewrite history and wring your hands over the guy, it just reminds the rest of us that Kenwright never once faced the backlash that he truly deserved in life.

He did make some money?

That’s putting it mildly. He made an actual fortune whilst keeping himself and his sycophant cronies firmly in power at the club.

Will not celebrate his passing as to me that’s just crass, however in passing my deepest condolences to his family and friends on a human level…….i will not mourn the chairman who literally held the club back and refused to sell…..and when he did it was to Morshiri FFS.
