Memories of the 70’s

I was just infont of that barrier , it went and a few of us tried to push it back to save the fans behind it from going over.
Scary few seconds while they pushed back to make room.
Then it just snapped we did get the blame for it.
A Bit if it got lashed over the fench between us and Bolton to the left, think that's why we got the blame for it.
Parts of that terrace we covered in what looked like cider rather than concrete , luckily nobody got hurt.
Your actions and others probably stopped a scary incident from being more serious its nearly 50 years ago and a bit late but thanks for that.

Teams for myopic supporters, there was comb over, fella, afro fella, little fat one, tall skinny man, fella with a beard , ginger, hippy looking winger, porno tash geezer, all instantly recognizable by even Mr Magoo

Mad day that Bolton New Year’s Day debacle,I was thirteen and went in my wellies:lol::lol:,lost my mates dads car afterwards, eventually found it,he had terrible eyesight at the best of times but in the driving snow and compacted ice he managed to hit/slide into four cars😂I thought we were never getting home😂😂😂
We had a similar journey home, didn't hit anything but it was touch & go! Took ages to get home.

The “ Ernie Hunt” goal for Coventry , 71/72 ish , remains a weird memory . In those days you could move around Coventry’s old ground , we’d come to a halt , all I saw was a ball going directly up in the air , coming down , rising again into the back of our net. It wasn’t until I got home and watched MoTD that I knew what happened. Somebody had the ball between their feet , flicked it up in the air, Hunt hit it in on the volley . It was banned afterwards as a double-touch , so only occurred against us. Everton that.

….think it might’ve been Willie Carr that did the flick-up. Very innovative but subsequently banned.

I was there, abandoned at Half time, did Trevor Ross score for us?

Think so,1-1 at half time when it got abandoned?

January 1, 1979

Wandereres 1 Everton 1 (abandoned)

A treacherous snow-bound pitch at Goodison Park played host to one of the most infamous meetings between the two old clubs, which never went the distance.

Barnsley official Trelford Mills gave the go-ahead for a match to take place in front of 35,000 at Burnden despite thick snow cleared from the pitch overnight.

Further snowfall closer to kick off made for impossible conditions but in the 45 minutes which were played, Peter Reid suffered a serious injury which cost him a year of his career.

Everton, who had fielded a weakened side after losing a few key players to injury, also had Mick Lyons and Neil Robinson limp off in the first half. The scored sat at 1-1 with goals from Trevor Ross and Frank Worthington when the referee finally agreed to call the game off.

Bolton boss Ian Greaves said: “The match should never have been started. There was certainly no way we tried to get it played because Everton were without players through injuries. In fact, I am sorry it was started because of Peter Reid, it looks as if he has badly damaged his knee ligaments.”

Everton boss Gordon Lee added: “Pele and Cruyff wouldn’t play on a pitch like that. It’s joke from an entertainment point of view.”

I reckon Gordon would have thought Cruyff and Pele were fancy Dans anyhow😉🤣👍

The 1970s? Where to start? At Goodison:
My first games, Dad putting me in the Boys' Pen and then going off. It was often rough in there, especially for the likes of me on me own.
A few years later, with me mates, always getting a bag of heavily salted chips from the Goodison Supper Bar (was it called that then?) opposite the church.
Watching cushions being launched from the Main Stand after poor performances.
Aways? Always going in the Kop when we plated that lot. Was easy getting spares on the day.
For other "happy memories" see the other recent thread on here about those...
