2025/26 David Moyes

That's fair. The question then, I suppose, is regarding time. For example if our wage budget next season is the 7th highest in the league and we spend similar sums on transfer fees that we paid out this summer, would 7th be the minimum expectation for the 26/27 season, or, as many others have suggested (@JobForTheMoyes , for example) will it take several years worth of transfer windows to get us to that level, and would that be justifiable regardless of spend (fees and/or wages)?

I personally think we will finish around 12th this year (I don't think this squad is as good as some people do, and I don't think Moyes is as good as others do) and if Moyes gets us top half then that would be a decent achievement for a first full season. If we then add a striker, some functional full backs and a replacement for Gueye, and in doing so raised our wage budget to the aforementioned 7th highest in the league, then European football would be the minimum requirement of any manager, imo. I also don't think our new owners would consider multiple seasons in mid-table to be a good return on their investment.
I think I could forgive slight underperformance in this season Vs whatever the budget is, there's a lot of change in the playing squad which is going to take a little while to settle down.

But I'd say that from next season onwards my expectations would be that we are at performing in the league to whatever our budget is Vs our peers.

To get to that 7th-ish spot that we probably averaged when he was here last time, it feels much more difficult than it used to be, but if we have the 7th biggest budget then that's going to become my minimum expectations at some point

Couldn't care less about negativity. All I care about is if he wins as many games over the season as we should do.

The recruitment bit I think is a bit mad to be too critical about tbh, that's only partly Moyes and I think we are still 4 players short of where we need to be but it's unrealistic to do all the squad overhaul we needed to do within one window.
Not about being short, not having a specialist RB and nobody at CF who can trap a ball is management 101. "As we should do"? Well that'll write off quite a few. You don't win games at the Sky 6 by going out not to concede.

It’s recruitment not management/coaching! Managers no longer get to pick the players like they did in his early days, for better and for worse.

I do not care one single bit of we lose every game at the sky 6 as long as we win enough other games to compensate.

Dunno why people fixate on this.

Why is an away game against Man Utd or whoever more important than a game against Fulham? They count for exactly the same number of points

It's not but if you want to win things in this league (like a cup) then at some point we have to stop being scared of the sky 6 as we will end up facing them.

It isn't but people with an agenda will look for any excuse.

It's a measure of how good you are, as well as having the belief in yourself that you can and should win such matches. Like we used to in the mists' of time.

The only measure of how good you are that means anything is how many points you get in a season, not who you won them against
If you regularly beat the top sides it is surely a measure of improvement, conversely, if you continue to fail to beat the top sides you are not improving, and will remain amongst the also rans.

No, you're improving if you win more points and finish higher than you did the season before.

It's likely that doing so would involve picking up points against the top sides, but that's merely a function of the end result.

The Moyes Missile Defense system is malfunctioning and sending blanks now.

....as if "who cares about trying to win at the top teams" was some kind of normal generally accepted idea among the fans, and you have to have an "agenda" to disagree

ALL this just because a few posters don't like him

It's a bit hysterical tbh

Fwiw I don't think you have to have an agenda to disagree with me.

My sole measure of success is winning games. I'm not arsed who we win them against (with the exception of Liverpool where that's because I hate them).

I don't see that as being a wild take tbqh

Fair enough, I thought the agenda comment was just silly but was not yours.

I don't think necessarily I would see it as a wild take either, I just think you'd very much be in the minority and got the sense you were talking like "this is how any reasonable fan" should see it. Might just be my reading of it tho
