Again, stones didn’t play a single game under Moyes so he came through after Moyes, that isn’t semantics it’s just a fact. Lukaku was an absolutely massive success, deulofeu, mccarthy, onana etc were successes, holgate was bought as an 18 year old from league one and went on to play 150 games, that’s a success by any reasonable definition. How can players like Cameron archer and omari kellyman count but Ellis simms and Tom cannon don’t?

It’s just a complete nonsense of a post because you’re doing exactly what I said people always do with this a page or so back, changing the parameters and fudging the facts to try and make it sound like a good point.

let’s say the last decade then. We havé barely had any sucess in the last 10 years with young players. Martinez was actually good for young players… but that was a long time ago.

if you think other teams are saying we have been successful with players like deulofeu, mccarthy (who wasn’t even that young when we signed him) and onana - I’m not sure they would agree. Holgate wasn’t bad signing given £ to apperances. But no one was sad to see the back of all of them. I would argue we thought we were buying up and coming player, all were run of the mill.

Re Villa players - Kellyman and archer were sold in 19m and 17m, simms and cannon 5m a peice. Thats different levels of sucess.

There is no way you can argue villa haven’t out performed us on every level of academy players coming in, signing young players, integrating players into the first team, and even selling young player on for more money.

Mate you're absolutely all over the place here, one minute you're not talking about the academy, the next minute you are, O'Brien (signed aged 23) counts as young, McCarthy (signed aged 22) doesn't, only bringing through 2 first teamers through the academy in 10 years is a terrible record compared to Newcastle who have brought through...2. How much a player is sold for is what's important rather than the level they perform to, despite the point supposedly being about development not business. You just haven't made a single coherent point.

Of course we could do better, perhaps you haven't noticed that we haven't won a trophy for 30 years, haven't finished higher than 8th for 8 years, have been docked points for not being able to look after our finances etc, we could do quite literally everything better as a football club. The point is just that our record with young players really isn't particularly bad at all, it's not out of keeping with most of our rivals or out of keeping with anything else we do. Of course not every young player we've had has turned out to be absolutely incredible, but they're not going to are they? Performing to a decent standard for us and/or potentially being sold at a profit is being a success. All of the players I mentioned did that, it's ridiculous to suggest they don't count because they didn't win the ballon d'or or something. The same applies to Dibling, he isn't only a success if he goes on to get 100 England caps and single handedly carries us to a load of trophies, just being a good player for us over the next few years is absolutely fine.

Not sure why you have taken this as your mission. My views on Dibbling is that he looks decent, but there’s a lot still to do.

And i stand by the fact that i don’t think we have been that successful with young players in the last decade. It’s not a particular strong opinion tbf

Not sure he was the signing we needed for the price, but he's one for the future of the club and there's nothing wrong with the club investing in our future
