2025/26 Beto

He’s started 5 out of 7 and had 85 minutes on the 2 he didn’t Start. And he’s been useless in most of them.
Not sure anything changes.
If we want Alcaraz in the side, maybe we try him or ndiaye through the middle
Said weeks ago - Would try Charly as an all out 9 in a front 3, but more on the floor football. Got a keen eye for goal. Think he would surprise quite a few people after a couple of games which would obviously be needed. Training games would be needed firstly though, for work on theory and movement to integrate with other players around him.

Totally unfair that, it’s a valid point. Let’s be clear here, he didn’t play well today, he was just better than Barry. Some of his touches sete horrific and one misplaced pass on the halfway line could’ve cost us the game. Hes got good points but he’s very very limited and limiting. Not accepting that makes you look like a clueless idiot to be honest.
He did play well.

Held the ball up better than usual and fairly well, troubled their defenders and had a big hand in the goal (albeit would have been disappointed with himself that he didn't get the actual goal).

Both he and Charly just ran hard. Harder than anyone first half. He caused a few rushed clearances, made some runs behind putting doubt in their mind for the first time in the game (something even a ā€œnot readyā€ striker is capable of doing). Charly having that bit of quality as well as the effort turned the match.

Beto is not very good at football. But if we get that swashbuckling Beto every week, we will do fine until we can get someone better. If anything, his 2nd half should show Barry how much impact you can make by doing nothing other than running from A to B much much faster, and with aggressive intent. And should show him how the crowd will always get behind someone giving everything even if they have no physical coordination from the knees down.

Beto’s header typified him. He went after it full-bore and would have cleared out anyone in the way from either team. But hasn’t the quality to direct it. But if he hadn’t gone for it, it finishes 1-1.
I dont think he did much wrong with the header...
He's gone to put it back across him, making it much harder for the keeper to adjust as his weights already going the other way...

9/10 times he scores with that effort, Henderson is a very good keeper

I don’t think he did personally. He did ā€˜ok’ but I would expect a lot more before I said a striker played well. Some people seem to have lowered the bar so far that just not kicking the ball into your own face every time you get it is playing well. I still have some standards, but you do you.

we have two strikers so we need one
to work and second half he did

Fluffed another sitter and nearly set up a goal for Palace with his mis control. Just another Beto game šŸ˜‚
Thought he was unlucky with the header tbh. Powerful effort which Henderson kept out by a lick of paint on his shinpads and with the way the cross fell to him he couldn't really have headed it anywhere else

Thankfully Jack was switched on so it didn't matter anyway

I would be up for this. It’s really not in Moyes’s nature though. He’s very risk averse and even though he praised Alcaraz today, it’s obvious he’s not as confident in him as most of us.
