2025/26 Beto

Soon as the ball went over his shoulder, he should have been head down towards goal. Instead, He looked for the defender and played for a foul that never came

Awful.

He’s basically what would have had happened had we signed The Strac permanently

I honestly thought he might have just shot early, but then remembered he can only do that weird instep shot, so impossible from that angle.

No balance, control and constantly falling over.

Seems to be getting worse, just a torrid performance last night, the original Bambi on ice performance.
Noticed one of the commentators mentioned that last night as well (I don’t get to go the night games) - stark the wording they used; “he never looked in control of the ball or his own actions”.

Absolutely spot on, he just doesn’t look anywhere near a premier league footballer. He’s a big yard dog that on his best day will make it hard for defenders with his physicality, but realistically he’s levels off the required ability.

Lowkey, I think Strac could hold up the ball better than Beto

I've said it before, but for a man of his size, he uses his body terribly, somehow loses the ball when goal side of defenders time and time again. With a frame and build of his size, that shouldn't happen, once behind the defender he should be away and gone. But he has absolutely zero control of his own legs unfortunately

Woeful at hiding the ball.

I don’t think the manager rates him much, when he talks about him it’s more about the need to do better or what a decent fella he is.
After watching Moyes teams for 10 years, can tell he hasn’t rated him from the off. Even when he was scoring.
When Moyes was here first time round, they were always his own picks for players. Get the impression he doesn’t like players who aren’t his picks.

Beto isn't the worst of it - the fact that we bought Barry to replace/alternate alongside him is the problem. Neither of them, right now, are anywhere near PL quality. Barry might eventually be, though personally I can't see it, but Beto sadly never will be.

However, Beto was a known quantity - the minimum requirement in the transfer window was a player who was superior to him. Instead we bought Barry.

Last night I heard some absolute poison being shouted at him from the crowd. Just no need for it at all. Mainly by big lumps who couldn’t do a lap of the 18 yard box. Frothing at the mouth using him as a scapegoat.

We all know he’s not the answer but I’d still take his desire and effort over Calvert Lewin who really did stink the gaf out for many seasons.

But seriously let’s not forget where we are.

He needs taking out the team, just start Barry for a spell, though he offered less than Beto last night.

Any confidence has gone from the lad, he’s not even being a handful and making life difficult for the cbs by running his backside off and putting himself about, which was a strength.

Not surprising when you can hear vitriol and abuse all around being lashed at him, some of it way over the top. The ultimate scapegoat for poor tactics and other poor players in the side.

He’s also packed in making any runs because the ball is hardly ever put in for him, our wingers keep trying to beat the same man 15 times, so the defence continually get set up and can defend the cross when it does come in easier and we don’t even put balls over the top to him now, everything is smacked right at him for him to hold up which we know is a problem.

We know he’s not the most skilful player, but if you’re not getting him bullying and harassing defences, or getting crosses into him early, then he brings nothing.
Genuinely surprised by this. I couldn't go last night but up until now I've always thought he's got away incredibly lightly from the crowd. About 90% of his games for us he's been utterly useless but he's always retained some sort of weird cult hero status at the games, patience must have run out for many.

The club giving him the number 9 shirt was scandalous and some fans are going to go after him unfortunately.
