2025/26 David Moyes

A 2-1 loss away at by far the best team in the country is a strange time to start questioning the manager.

No one likes losing to them but they are much better than us and almost everyone else.
I think in the overall scheme of things Moyes has done solid work , but I think it's fair to critique his lack of success regarding matches against higher levels of competition especially if Everton have aims to aspire to a regular higher standing, I don't think Moyes should be sacked like a certain provacatouer on here. I think sensible scrutiny is a key part of everton discourse , of course there will always be people on here who partake in being indignant about everything as well.

In the face of such an eloquent and articulate, not to say cogent, deliberation, it's only fair to make a similarly considered response. On the other hand - drivel!!!

The new owners have shown at Roma what their MO is.

It’s not a question of posters being pro or anti Moyes, or their stance on previous managers, it’s all irrelevant now.

The only reality is that unless Moyes breaks out of the limits that he couldn’t the first time round at the club, then he’ll most likely not get another contract.

60ish points, losing to the top 6 away from home, no cup run, and no derby wins might be accepted this season due to the increase in league position but quite frankly if that was repeated the season after then he’ll be out the door.

We have some very very good attacking players at Everton now. Moyes needs to unlock them and start changing perceptions of Everton otherwise the Freidkins will find someone else who will.

The mixed nature of the start absolutely infuriates me. How can the CEO come out in an interview and basically admit we weren’t ready for the Leeds game? I don’t care that we won the two afterwards, that’s just absolutely inexcusable. Then the highs of three wins in a row and just when you think a corner is being turned and we can really make a statement this year, timid fc raises its unwanted head again and 1 point from Villa and Liverpool with that first 30 mins against Liverpool undid all the good work from before.

I can accept teams playing badly, god knows we’ve seen plenty of that from Everton, I can accept lack of quality as we saw against Villa. What I cannot accept is the first 45 mins v Leeds and Liverpool. Players just seemingly ‘not ready’ for no given reason other than it was the first game of the season and it was Anfield so there was an excuse not to be.

Moyes needs to knock that on the head and quickly. If it’s the players doing then fix it, if it’s his fault then bleeding knock it off. It’s boring and tiring.

It's too early in the season to call him out tactically. We are lightweight in some important positions and some of the new signings are untested as of yet. I think he has had enough time to learn something though.

We are too decent to be playing scared. There is decent talent in the squad and we can work possession. No need for us to approach games hesitantly. The squad has improved. I think this cup game will be a good test to get a look at Dibs and maybe others. As I said before we need another look to KDH in the number 10. Maybe in the next league game we can get a look at the Ndiaye/Grealish/Dibs trio. We need to test it.

I fully agree mate.

The players we have now means we should never go into any game (including the apparently most un-winnable fixture in the PL for any club that we just faced) not believing we can win.

It's all changed. But I fear that Moyes' legacy still hangs over this squad - he's a connection to the days when we had to hunker down for points. That's why it was a poor decision for TFG to stick with him in the summer. He was perfect to come in and get us to safety last season, but he's not the man they wanted or who we require now.

If he gets 60 points as you suggest then he should and probably will see out his 2 year contract. But if we fall short of that or dont get a cup final appearance then he should be paid up and sent packing.

Sean Dyche - Just keeping us up would be a miracle
David Moyes - He doesnt get 60 points sack him

Different options available to each...

This is a different club to the one even 12 months ago.

VASTLY DIFFERENT.
I knew you would say that, but what you dont realise is that only praises Moyes, cos what you are saying is that in only 12months he has transformed this Club with the results he got and the players he has brought in.

So yes, I agree with you, In Moyes We Trust.

Dyche "couldn't do any better"
Moyes "has to do better"

Wild.

It’s not as binary as that, circumstances have changed haven’t they?

It’s not about individual poster’s opinions, it’s the reality of the ownership now. Moshiri in his endgame just wanted someone to keep us in the league on a sell to profit model whilst he sold the club. He couldn’t afford to sack Dyche even if he’d wanted to. Hence why half the debate was completely pointless, the reality was he wasn’t going anywhere pre takeover and he was immediately leaving post takeover.

The reality now is the Friedkins will want to see their assets appreciate. Moyes has 2 seasons on his contract. I’m a big Moyes fan for what he did here the first time but it’s not completely wild of me to posit that he’ll have to break some of those previous glass ceilings to earn a new contract. It’s not that wild a take.
