The darkness should've done a helluva lot better after that 1st album. Imo
The record companies wouldn't touch them, so they self financed it and got all the royalties themselves and toured it. They made monstrous amounts of money and Hawkins sadly let rock & roll* take it's toll on him. (drugs*)(good lad!)

Not a massive music buff like some, but some albums have stuck with me over the years, my first proper album I listened to was james, Gold Mother, still my favourite. Then Nirvana released Never Mind, it resonates as I was about 15/16 at the time hanging around with good mates. And after that would probably be White Ladder, David Gray.
Shout out to Steve wonder too for songs in the key of life, but I also have a wild card which I loved, Elton John, sings from the west coast ?
