Wasn't his debut off the bench in a 2-3 home loss to West Ham when we were 2-0 when he joined the field with 15 mins left. I don't think I have seen a worse player for us, especially considering his price was near our record transfer fee at the time.

Quite a lot will have been on here i'd imagine. Patterson from the current squad, Mykolenko when he first came, Gordon for sure. It's generally used to refer to players who have good natural attributes but don't look great technically and look like they'll need plenty of development. There are certain words I think have the connotations you're reaching for but I don't think raw is one to be honest.
