15, he was pretty gash towards the end of the season.

It's his MO, starts of strong, injury prone, and he's a one dimensional player.

It's why he's moved from club to club, it's why he's played for a litany of randoms since he left Everton.

If he was as good as everyone thinks he is, he wouldn't be in Mexico.

Calling him the best player in decades is cringe-worthy.

He was 31 when he left us not 24. Its not like hes had some wasted career ffs.

Two seasons before he came to us bayern wanted to sign him permanently after a good loan spell with them but he requested them not to activate his option to buy so he could play at real Madrid.

Hes 34 and injury prone thats why hes playing in mexico.

Let me guess you didnt like him because he didnt run round like a headless chicken?

The lad was class and took our entire team up a level by being in it.

you keep saying hes not our best player but no one will tell me whos been better in the last 20 years?

How is he one dimensional? I kind of agree that he has been the highest quality player I have seen playing for us since Rooney/Kanchelskis (although I would also put Baines up there).

This is so so wrong it hurts my eyes
My opinion is as worthless as anyone else’s but Age has given me the opportunity to have watched Everton teams that were the best team in Europe . Something they achieved whilst winning titles , so I’ve seen a fair few years of players before and since .

Whilst id probably disagree with the initial quote but I’m not sure I’ve seen many more ‘skillful players ‘ for the us in 50 years . Contribution and importance to the side as well probably as overall ability are different conversations but measuring it on ‘skill’ then JR is right up there with our very best .

If I was Given a choice between him and Andre I’d certainly choose kanchelskis but that doesn’t undermine my point . I do also feel robbed to have never actually watched him because of Covid .

All about opinions though isn’t it

This is not the transfer you're looking for...

Al-Rayyan
Olympiacos
Sao Paolo
Rayo Vallacano
Leon

Those are the clubs he played for, in the past 3 years, after his magnificent, best player in decades spell at Everton. He was the best player at Everton in decades, and was so in demand he played for lesser clubs in lesser leagues, after his best player in decades spell at Everton that wowed everyone in the world.

I never said I didn't like him. But we've had far more effective players in the past 20 years than him. Barry, Lukaku, Baines, Arteta, Stones, Pickford...you could make a case for others, but I'll leave it there.

He obviously had overwhelming skill, but he has been a vagabond (even before Everton) as he was always injured or his production infrequent. There was a reason he was available on a free when we got him.

I tend to agree. Wonderful player but on a pure skill level was he better than Sheedy? I'm not so sure Harry.

EDIT
I also think that Rooney had at least as much if not more technical ability.

We defended 10v11 with him on the pitch. Which is fine if he's productive, it's not fine if he's not.

We're way off topic here so I'll just end my part of the conversation.

There's no reason why O'Brien can't be aiming to oust Tarkowski, none at all. To be blunt, if he's genuinely not good enough to oust an average PL journeyman who's 33 and coming off the back of a serious injury, he really can't be all that good himself.
While I agree he should long term be aiming to oust Tarky, he's not there yet. Tarky and Branthwaite are one of the best PL partnerships and I don't think it is a reflection on O'Brien at all to be 3rd after them.
Being out of the team having done well at RB for a lad who used to be very good at RB but on the downhill seems odd to me because Walker will be expecting to start every game no matter how he's playing

Well then he can stop wasting our time then. No player should be guaranteed a starting spot regardless of their performance levels, certainly not a 35 year old who was finished two years ago.

For me, the opportunity to play centre half is there. Tarkowski is unlikely to be fit for the kick off, and if O'Brien plays well in pre-season and the start of the season then (at the risk of setting people off again) I just don't think Tarkowski is that good that he should be walking straight back into the side as soon as he's fit.

I agree 100%
He'll think he's doing us a favour though, like Delph, and it will show through
We finished the season strong since Moyes and our weaknesses are clearly RW and more up front
We only need back up at RB and LB imo

I've been very unimpressed with Walker the last couple of seasons he was in the Prem, especially since his super power has faded
