Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Definitely has a more professional feel about it and James Smith is a massive coup for Everton, I think that will turn heads within football, but unfortunately he wont be involved in this transfer window as he will have a period of leave from City, rumoured to be 3 months which will put us in mid September.
Wonder if he will work with the club on the QT till then

Forget all the players supposedly "linked," "tipped," and of which Everton are "aware." Let's take a moment to feel hopeful about this:
  • Angus Kinnear, CEO
  • Chris Howarth, head of strategy (The Friedkins also bought his data analytics company, Insight Sport.)
  • Nick Hammond, trades and negotiations
  • James Smith, director of scouting
Everything points to an ambitious team with a record of finding quality talent for real value, both as players for the club and as future sales. They were unlikely to make moves during the first short window, especially while still assembling the team that would make things happen, but this leadership team should inspire some confidence. I think the only position left is football operations.
Are these guys legit top draw though or is it wishful thinking with a bit of wait and see? I really hope they do all perform but I have my concerns. I watched us all get excited about Walsh and then Brands when similar ambitious driven proven words were said about them

Apparently he can't, as City place all their recruitment people on 3 months gardening leave when they are leaving, so they cannot share recruitment data with their new employer. It was after someone left them to join the RS and took all the info over with them - apparently it caused a huge fallout.

Hadn't realised that. Had thought it was that they had hacked into the city database or something like that

The Evan Ferguson stories do seem to be gaining a bit of traction online. It really, really would be so disappointed when Barry and Woltemade are available. It's the kind of signing you make on loan when all other options are exhausted.

I thought we should have been in for him on loan last January when the situation was very different. But not now.
Woltemade is the one I would like ideally myself but think its unlikely he leaves Germany tbh

Dunno all the details myself mate, but that's the story apparently.

I wondered the same as you, but it sounds more like he will be coming in to help in future rather than having anything to do with this summer.

Hope we stay away from Ferguson … His levels have dropped off completely!! Only thing for me would I believe if Moyes was to bring him in then that would suggest to me that he is happy with his off field antics . As much as I’d love to see a another Irish player at the club I just don’t think Ferguson will make it

I can honestly say I’ve never hated an Everton player ever.

Oh apart from maybe Holgate. And Earl Barrett. And Paul Gerrard. And Schneiderlin. And.. actually yeah I’ve hated loads of them.

Barmby?

My most hated Everton player ever is either Alexandersen or doucoure … hate is probably the wrong word …. But they’re the two that made me swear the most

Walsh/Brands were never left alone to do their jobs without Kenwright/Moshiri sticking their nose in. Then the dodgy agents got in Moshiris ear and that was it.

Also Walsh was a top scout, yet them two clowns brought him into be a director of football. Something he had no knowledge off.

Brands has gone on record and stated often he wanted young players but moshiri/kenwright just went off and did their own thing…buying ‘big names’ & has beens.

Both Bill/Moshiri were essentially small time businessmen. Unlike TFG pulling in 13 billion annually or something crazy like that

Angus Kinnear seems to be a good fit. He has a track record of making successful and profitable moves to new stadiums and avoiding PSR issues.

Nick Hammond is supposed to be a real get. He brought a young Frimpong to Celtic for £250k and later sold him for over £12m. He has a long track record of helping to make really good signings for Celtic, Newcastle and Leeds.

James Smith was with Moyes the first time around and followed him to Man U. After that debacle, Man City recruited him to scout in Europe and eventually promoted him to head of scouting. From what I can gather, he's known for really strong youth recruitment to develop academy players to contribute or be sold for value. That sounds really encouraging after watching so many players go nowhere.

I'll admit that Howarth is the real unknown. Looking into him a bit now, he isn't really a football hire and his company is only a little more than a year old. He's had a long and successful career with companies that do data analytics in retail and the hospitality industry, so I'm starting to worry that his real job will be using data to figure out how to squeeze as much money out of supporters as possible.

Have you seen any specifics on when his gardening leave actually began? I don't see anything, but his gardening leave apparently isn't connected to a move to Everton, but to restructuring, which may be connected to the FFP investigation. The restructuring date could be as late as Hugo Viana's hiring in April, but could go back farther, and so we may be weeks or months into the gardening leave already. Add to that the fact that Ornstein and Boyland note that the clubs have a "healthy relationship" and that talks have been amicable, and I wouldn't be surprised if he started sooner than expected.
