Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

At this point I'm wondering if you REALLY dont know that Thelwell didnt sign Maupay?

Literally the circumstances of the signing have been posted 1000's of times.

It’s funny because you were saying that Thelwell had absolutely nothing to do with the O’Brien signing. Until he actually started to look a decent player, and then it was magically all down to Thelwell.

….poor Zat can’t get over the fact that the man has gone, it’s a bit of a Groundhog Day discussion, let’s just look forward to who the new regime brings in.

I personally thought Thelwell did okay with the financial problems we had throughout his tenure, he had to cut the wage bill which he did and not everyone, including me liked that so much. But opinions on players, managers, dof's differ i understand that. My liking of Zats post was over Maupay, there was no way he signed him, that had Bills fingerprints all over it. Anyway I certainly hope this new regime do better than the last, because then all Evertonians win, but the juries out, let's wait and see, just hope they are given better financial support, than Thelwell got, they have got a better PSR position and a lot of that is down to Thelwells transfer strategy, like it or not throughout his time at Everton.

I agree but I think we can do better than 8th. I just don't think the likes of Newcastle, Forest and Villa are all that. We recently beat Forest in their own ground during their run-in for a Champions League place. We beat Newcastle, again at their own ground, during their real cup final that they desperately wanted to win to ensure their CL qualification.

All kinds of different things can happen, and there could possibly be a period in which our players have to adapt to the surroundings of our new stadium. But the idea that Forest, Newcastle and Villa are five years ahead of us is absurd imo. I think they're just as crap, or just as good, as we are!

I agree when it comes to Forest - next season will be the real test for them - but having messed up their recruitment the year they got promoted, they bought well last year - far less scattergun, key players for key positions for the way they wanted to play. I just can't see Wood having another season like the last, and who knows when it will be safe for Awoniyi to play again, so they will need to invest heavily in a number 9. Linked with Igor Jesus - but probably 50/50 whether he would adapt and score a lot of goals in the Prem.

Villa and the Barcodes carry much more depth and ability in midfield and attack than us, having both bought pretty well over the past three years and I presume both will strengthen this summer again. Watkins and Isak guarantee you goals with the right service - and they have wide players to deliver that. Can we say the same over the course of a season - I don't think so with what we have now and the level of player we are likely able to get this summer.

Thellwell spent 60m on Maupay, Beto and Chermo and was rightly sacked for gross misconduct.

Didn't lose money on Maupay.

We'd recoup what we spent on Beto. Beto was signed 2 days before the window closed when we hadn't scored a goal 3/4 games into the season because he was available for £0 upfront. How many strikers can you sign for literally, £0 upfront to defer a payment for a year? We couldn't spend.

Chermiti always felt an odd one - similar story with what we could spend upfront and I reckon most of that money was appearence based.

I'd have kept Thelwell/Purdy. Give them a go with having the capability to actually proactively spent in a window for a change.

Beto is improving and starting to score goals, he also signed Alcaraz and N'diaye who if you mention the bad, to be fair you have to mention the good.

FFS lads, was just some zat bait.

I said at the end, I thought KT did ok with his limited funds.

it is lowkey worrying how much business we need to do in the next 2 months

if keane doesn't sign a new contract on reduced terms then we currently have a squad of 17 first team players which includes 2 right backs and a youth keeper who will never play anyway. It may as well be a first team squad of 14 players

GK - Pickford, Tyrer
Defenders - Coleman, Patterson, Tarkowski, O'Brien, Branthwaite, Mykolenko
Mid - Gueye, Iroegbunam, Garner, Armstrong
Attack - Beto, Chermiti, McNeil, Alcaraz, Ndiaye

maybe George Pickford, Roman Dixon, Reece Welch, Isaac Heath and Martin Sherif get promoted to the first team

hopefully after 1st July 2025 things will start progressing

Was Youssef Chermiti properly scouted? The player had hardly played any football before we went in for him. Has a slight whiff of one of those dodgy Martínez-esque signings. Enigma. I remember at the time, journalists were quite surprised we went in for him, describing him as very raw and more of a youth team player, etc. Strange.

Agree
Seemed harsh to get rid having navigated the hard times well
Thelwell did a great job imo all things considered

He was one of those 10-15 million signings everyone wants to make before they are worth 30 million.

Can't agree on "great" amigo.

However in my humble opinion he did well in very difficult financial circumstances.

He made some very good signings and some that haven't worked out.

He significantly reduced the wage bill , had a positive balance on player trading and we still maintained the same level of performance.

All in all , not to be sniffed at.

Interesting that no club bigger than Rangers were interested in his services.
