Things you have completely wasted money on

"Ciggies, thousands of them".

Lol... Betamax is to VHS what 8 Track tapes are to cassettes tapes.

But I think there are some rare Betamax videos out there that are worth a pretty penny.

Kurt... I think you missed a beat there, mate.

- 'Things you have completely wasted money on.'
- 'Yer mar!'

That's very much unlike you, Kurtis! 😲

Edit:

Oh Snap! 🤣🤣
Nope…. I’ve never had to waste a penny on yer mar mate

Three motorbikes which between them, maintenance, the garb and insurance/fuel cost me about fifteen to twenty grand and the proper use of one of my limbs.
Oh dear, I've known a few that paid a much higher price. You working back to something like full use? I loved my riding days, and I am glad I heeded some very early advice, 'get lots of miles under your wheels on a small bike and just learn the road'. Experience is everything. Few things are like gliding along enjoying the roads, mile after mile, bliss.

Used to love getting a new bat when I played. Then came the realisation when you got home you needed to spend hours knocking the bloody thing in.
Absolutely miserable experience, plus side though is it annoys the missus no end. I really should get back into it, I just struggle with lower grade cricket because it's basically crap and full of wounders who've never played a decent grade in their life sledging you non stop. I played a year or two of it and packed it in, should have just retired at my highest level.

I do wonder when i see Telsa drivers of their moral journey they have been on purchasing this electrified car, from saving the planet to white supremacy etc.
I think the feller is a massive weapon but can separate the tech from the man, I just think they are hideous cars. If they made an attractive car I’d buy one. Possibly.

Does re-sale value determine a purchase? Just enjoy it while it's enjoyable, when it's not move on.

I don't recall any sage advice telling folk not to waste money owning a vhs as you might be able to stream it in 50 years. At the time it was probably brilliant watching a favourite movie when you wanted to
Anyone throwing away CDs because of streaming is nuts. You own nothing on Spotify or streaming sites - you merely have the right to listen to what they provide for as long as they provide it, providing you pay your fee. They can turn stuff off without a moment's notice - and regularly do.

Some people here are fans of wrestling. Well, they'll know all about the WWE Network. What was once one of the truly great streaming archives in any genre - with thousands of rare, obscure, and mainstream shows going back 50 years - was quickly shut down in many countries, never to return once they sold the rights to Netflix - who have now decided not to bother with most of the archive. People who collected Blurays and DVDs - and dumped them when the Network came along - now have nothing.

Nah, if you love something, collect it physically. It's yours. Streaming is great for convenience and passive consumption. But the special stuff needs to be owned if only to ensure you can watch it or listen to it when the next technological shift inevitably comes along.

Everybody on here moaning who is not already 'qualified' for The Oldies Thread - get yourselves over there...you're more than 'qualified' already.

I was going for a walk a few months back and ended up walking past one of the cricket ovals not far from my house whilst a game was on, looked like a fairly low grade, I stood and watched for about half an hour while a bunch of fat mutants who couldn't bat or bowl were trying to out do each other with the sledging "bantz".

It's pretty miserable going, especially getting a send off every innings too. Without going into an Eggs like story of bygone days, before I did an ACL, I was reasonably quick (80mph+), used to terrify people for fun. Would have been nice to pipe them down with a short one every few balls.

@Rita_Poon

There was a lion, in the jungle, laying on the ground close to death. All the animals of the land we’re crowded around, taunting and poking fun at him. A mouse scurried atop the lion, and while dancing on his nose said ‘He can’t do anything to us now!’. The animal crowd laughed and continued to make fun of the lion.

With all the energy left in his body, the lion lifted his head and said ‘Mock me now, but, I was a lion once.'

You can say the same about DVD's and BluRay's.

I had a mate who built a movie collection in the 00's like it was going out of fashion!
He spent a small fortune. Then streaming sites came along, and now he's stuck with a whole library of low-res rubbish.
I’m not going to get into my usual huge rant about this but dvds and blu rays are a sound investment. I have about 500 at the moment just in the horror genre. Movies come and go from streaming sites, and movies are now starting to be edited by streaming companies due to modern ‘sensibilities’. I however can grab any 80s slasher I want off my shelf and watch it in all its cheesy, gory, booby glory. Physical media rules.
