Today’s Football - 2024/25 Season

That PSG side is something else.

Needless to say it’s refreshing to see a style of football that’s so fluent and gung-ho. Gone are the days of the boring tika-taka.

Really happy for Enrique the guys a top top coach.

Yes its nice to see Enrique with a smile. I remember when he came back into football after the tragedy and its cause issues with his long term friend Robert Moreno who wasn't happy to stand down when he came back. Not sure where he is now

Strangely underwhelmed by the final, probably because it was over as a sporting contest so quickly.

Can't help but feel a continuing disconnect from top level football, it's just unrelatable to me.
Yes, I have never felt more detached watching a European Cup final than I did last night.

I have never had such a bleak experience watching a brilliant performance.

I can't separate the display from what it means off the pitch and how the head-chopping human rights abusers are now winning. So, it's very weird to take so little pleasure and joy from an objectively brilliant footballing display. I marvel at these kids who at 19 or 21 seem super-human, and the child at Barcelona is just the best I have ever seen at that age. But I refuse to blindly deny what's behind all of this and how dystopian that is. So, while I can objectively marvel, I cannot emotionally enjoy it. The purity and joyous pleasure is gone.

That said, the European Cup has always been tainted, whether by Franco, match-fixing, Berlusconi, or Abramovich. But we're at a new elevated level of dystopian malevolence now...

I loved Luis Enrique as a player. Rarely saw a player who combined determination, work-rate, and technical smarts as well as he did. That Barcelona team he played in during the late 90s with Luis Figo, Rivaldo, Guardiola, Kluivert, the de Boers, and a teenage Xavi was very good indeed. And Luis Enrique was, arguably, the key player and glue of that side, even with Figo in "best-player-in-the-world" mode.

It's country wide. Not that it makes it any better, how the authorities have associated blame with the football result, especially so quickly seems a bit dubious.
PSG fans (if you can call them that) are notorious for causing mayhem, whether they win or lose, so sadly it wouldn't surprise me if it is due to their success.*

The trophy parade will be chaos!

Crikey. A 17yo kid stabbed to death during celebrations?! A bizzie is in an induced coma because fireworks were chucked at him and caused him severe eye injuries.
oh that is grim, 17yo stabbed in Dax, and 23yo knocked off a scooter (and killed) in central Paris. Hadn't caught the bizzie story. It's brave hooligans that chuck anything at cops on the continent seeing as the majority are armed.
