European Football 2024-25

Half time in Serie A

Juve heading to CL as it stands, bestinf Venezia 2-1. Roma to Europa, as they're up 1-0 and Lazio losing 1-0 at home to 10-Man Lecce.

Lecce safe as it stands. Empoli and Venezia down, but a goal for Empoli against Verona, will send Verona down.

God bless Sky Italia 😂

Venezia equalize. Roma in the CL as it stands

If a PL club wins the CL, and there are 5 CL spots for the league placings, with one additional europa cup berth, where is the europa league entry? and if there could be 6 CL entries, a euro cup spot ,FA cup win spot, league cup win spot, and europa cup and europa league win spots, could the PL see 11 (eleven) sides earn euro football in a season?

So

There's a bogus rule now, in its second season, where the countries with the best overall coefficient get awarded a bonus spot in the CL. It's ringfenced and it'll be extremely rare for anyome outside of the big 4 leagues to have a chance.

That makes 5 teams.

Then there are 2 options for how a side gets in the CL, and that's winning the CL, and winning the Europa, but not qualifying for the CL itself.

In the event that 7 clubs from one nation qualify, they take spots from the lowest comp, and that's the Conference.

Impossible to follow.

This year, Palace, Villa got Europa. Palace by winning the Cup, Villa by finishing 6th. Forest got conference league by finishing 7th and Spurs CL by winning the Europa.

Had Chelsea have finished outside of the CL spots and won the Conference League, they'd have taken the "title holder" spot reserved for conference, so 7th would have got europa, 8th Conference league.

No doubt I've cocked it up.

So these are the strongest sides in the Conference League next season, argument to be said Forest could be favorites, and another English club sweeping up a trophy

And if you look at the Europa League which is Unai Emery's love child, you have to give Villa the tag as favorites for the competition next year (obviously Roma are decent but id still back Villa against them, another trophy celebration for an English club possibly1748504185769.webp

While some are saying (mainly people like Joe Cole, Chelsea, or Spurs representatives) that its great seeing the trophies getting lifted and that's what your in the game for etc etc.
How long until the gesture of winning either of these competitions gets diluted or with the conference league, the English teams just stop bothering and put out scratch sides like they do in the early rounds of the league cup.

I'd argue Palace & Newcastle winning domestic competitions is far greater achievement this season than either of Spurs or Chelsea picking up the European competitions

The finances the Premier League sides have to the lesser European sides is something similar to the difference between Celtic and the rest of the Scottish league

Its a farce - an English club will win the Europa and conference every year. What they should do is when a team gets added to the CL like spurs they should lose a spot in the lower cups.
