I struggled to stay awake during the recording of the recent episode of Race Across The World last night. I recovered consciousness just as the first couple arrived at the checkpoint. It was just after 9:00.
I've since modified things. I had the wrong attachment fitted and now just cover my left eye and don't bother with the mouth closure. The effects of using the machine are life-changing: I no longer snore, which is a great relief to Mrs TT, or dream as much, and am no longer cranky and argumentative. All this is due to undisturbed, deep sleep and I feel like a new man!I struggled to stay awake during the recording of the recent episode of Race Across The World last night. But there is a reason for it. I have been diagnosed with sleep apnoea and had, for the previous three nights, been sleeping wearing a CPAP mask. It's been a revelation but I have only had only averaged about four hours sleep. I also have to wear an eye mask because my left eye doesn't stay shut when I'm asleep, resulting in a collection of dust particles that I can't seem to seem to wash out fully - Bell's Palsy nine years ago has resulted in the muscles in the left side of my face still not functioning properly without conscious effort. I looked a bit like The Fly character when I first tried out the arrangement!

Oh I hope this helps, I need to see a Doctor about my lack of sleep, I'm only averaging about 2 to 3 hours a night for the last year, let us know how you get on xxI struggled to stay awake during the recording of the recent episode of Race Across The World last night. See my new post, Sue. You can get tested for sleep apnoea, it's what I did after my own Sue told me that I kept stopping breathing during the night.Oh I hope this helps, I need to see a Doctor about my lack of sleep, I'm only averaging about 2 to 3 hours a night for the last year, let us know how you get on xx

Cheers. I'm on my own so wouldn't ever know about stopping breathing. My daughter is a Clinical Physiologist and reckons I have Adult ADHD and my sleep patterns are due to that, really hope it sorts your problem out xSee my new post, Sue. The first mask I tried was nose and mouth. I couldn't get on with it so stopped using the machine for 18 months. I went back to Guys last week and they suggested the nose-only one. As long as my sinuses are clear then it's no problem at all. If I need to get up in the night I just turn off the air and pull off the tube connector, then vice versa when getting back into bed. The benefits far outweigh that anyway. There is hardly any evidence that any air is coming out of the tube.…I’d imagine it’s quite uncomfortable sleeping with that apparatus covering your face.

I also have adult ADHD. I still act mostly the same (compulsive spending, obsessiveness, etc.) but, as I am now more rested, calm and considerate, I tend not to interrupt, argue and blurt things out. As a consequence of those improvements I am much more a nicer person to live with.Cheers. I'm on my own so wouldn't ever know about stopping breathing. My wife is also a light sleeper. She still loses sleep over other things but at least my snoring is no longer keeping her awake (as hers does me, sometimes!,)…absolutely, must make a huge difference to quality of life if all of a sudden you can get a decent sleep. I’ve always been a light sleeper and I’m usually downstairs every morning before 06.30, can’t even blame it on being old but at least I am able to sleep.
