I personally reckon that the contract was offered a while ago on reduced wages and he found it a bit of an insult, hence his recent media appearances trying to generate some sympathy with at least half a mind on trying to pressure the club to offer him more..

We don't need that kind of thing at this club tbh.

I'm not sure it was an attempt to generate sympathy, more likely a pointed reference to the fact he's got other offers on the table and doesn't feel the need to accept less than he thinks he's worth. Personally I think it's worked out for the best him going, but I can see why the club might have thought it was worth trying to get him to stay on reduced terms, and why he wouldn't want to.

I never understood the hate he got, I always thought he did an important role for us in the press and off the ball.

But he was paid as though he offered far more than that (despite never really producing) and if we want to progress as a club, we need players who can do more.

This gives us a chance to shift some big wages, bring in a younger, more technically capable player.

Has Soucek scored more than Doucoure every year? He's probably scored double over the past 5/6 years.

He's not world class but he always seems to score 7-8 a season.

Not bothered in the slightest, simply not good enough. He sheds a tear on Sunday and all of a sudden people want him to stay haha.

The role off the ball needs to be replaced. Unless we get midfield reinforcements that midfield is getting played around and walked through without Doucoure in there.

The new recruits have to combine Doucoure’s ability to cover ground with the footballing technique required to play at the top level.

It will be twisted by the lads still upset he sat on a ball or something and upset wittle fwankie, defo not personal though.

Gave every ounce of effort and put in some really important performances, he played like the club really mattered to him. His role is also quite indicative of the club needing to move forward, as in we need to replicate what he gives us from that advanced position while adding more quality.
