Ex players on the pitch Sunday:

The saddest one was seeing that Joe Royle couldn’t do the appreciation lap. I welled up when I saw him doing the Echo’s Goodison memories podcast. I absolutely love him. Thinking about it, today was the first time I cried about an Everton related event since I found out Howard Kendall had passed. Stood in the middle of a shopping centre crying that day 🤦🏻🥹

Not an ex-player, but nice to see Martinez get a nice, polite round of applause with his video message, befitting of a manager who secured us successive 5th, 11th and 12th positions. Polite.

Divides opinion as a manager but always a very good speaker who has a deep understanding of the game. Enjoyed him saying most grounds you only feel a manager when on the touchline but Goodison you felt it as soon as you started walking up the tunnel steps and felt the walls slightly shaking.

Not sure if that ground feature has been kept for BMD as that is always something that has been uniquely Everton and is more commonplace in foreign grounds where teams emerge from dressing rooms below pitch level.
