Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Moyes talks about a quality stadium for quality players, if he goes for Longstaff, that will be embarrassing from Moyes, we need a starter in midfield, not paying out money for a 28 yr old journeyman.
I will lose my head if we get a few cast offs from the top 6/8
In Moyes' first stint that was very often the playbook. Hopefully not the case now. But who's even in charge of transfers now?

Full backs are part of the attack.

Ours contributed significantly to how grim we've been.

Think Pienaar without Baines behind him.

Now think NDiaye etc.

We definitely need full backs who can cross the half way line and deliver a ball as a priority.
Can’t be many other teams in the league with less attacking contributions from their fullbacks than us. Pretty much guaranteed we’re getting a left and right back in the summer

No you can’t probably do
What he did 20yrs ago, I think he will have a big say, but after Man Utd, this is the job he will be under more pressure at than any other imo. TFG will want to see big
Improvement In 2 yrs, especially if they give him big money

Who are they crossing it to? Doucoure and Beto?

The problem with ‘think Pienaar without Baines behind him’ is no one ever says think Baines without Pienaar but I remember how Everton played back then and we played a hell of a lot better when Pienaar was in the team with anyone at left back than we did when Pienaar was out of the team but. Baines was available. We played very well with Lescott at left back and he couldn’t cross a ball like Baines or Digne.

Our attack improves more by getting another Ndiaye calibre player for the right hand side, and a number 10, and a top creative mid that can really pull strings and release attacking players, and a top striker to finish chances. How much does all that cost? Bearing in mind we’ll be potentially losing Calvert Lewin Doucoure Harrison and Lindstrom in June, and need to decide on Alcaraz and Gueye.

I’m not saying let’s not improve the fullbacks. I just don’t think it’s the number 1 priority this summer. I can see us getting a left back to compete with Mykolenko and carrying OBrien and Patterson as the RBs.

We have 1 full back at the club who we can rely on to play.

That 1 full back has created 1 PL assist in over 100 games.

Nobody is saying we don't need other players, but we absolutely need full backs. And in my view - they're a priority.

Because if not, it's another season of playing Mykolenko at left back, and centre halfs or 40+ year olds at full back.

Obviously we need wingers, given we only have 1 of them registered to play next season too. And strikers. And centre midfielders.

A whole team, basically.

Thats just it, nobody is saying put all our money into Fullbacks, we dont even need to spend money, get 2 loans in the Fullback positions.

So its not "Just buy Fullbacks", its improve the fullbacks, improve the midfield, improve the wingers, improve the Strikers.

Not an easy task for 1 window, but not impossible.

This is what we are working with :

Goalkeepers
Jordan Pickford (HG)

Right Backs
Nathan Patterson

Left Backs
Vitaliy Mykolenko

Centre Backs
Jarrad Branthwaite (HG)
James Tarkowski (HG)
Jake O'Brien

Midfield
James Garner (HG)
Tim Iroegbunam (UA)
Iliman Ndiaye (HG)

Wide Forwards
Dwight McNeil (HG)

Strikers
Youssef Chermiti (UA)
Beto

We can assume that Gana will stay, the others, who knows.

But we need GKs, Fullbacks, a CB, some midfielders, some wingers and a Striker.

This summer is probably all about priorities. Yes, we could use upgrades in about 6 or 7 positions but it's not realistic to get it all done this summer, especially since we need a bit of squad depth as well.

We definately need a starting striker, attacking midfielder and a starting left winger. Those three positions are absolute priorities in my opinion. Alcaraz probably fills up the AM (but we still have to pay for him though), which leaves us for a striker and a winger. No matter who we will go for, those two positions will probably cost us quite a lot since attacking players are expensive. Lets just hope we dont spend the money on older, "over their prime" players but go for young high potentials. Although expensive, they will probably be worth it in time.

Ndiaye and O Neill are good for the left wing (and back up right). Garner is one spot in midfield and Gana should get a new contract. Both of them are good enough for now, considering our more urgent needs. Tarky and JB are obviously no brainers in the centre. RB would be nice but considering O Brien not the most urgent spot to upgrade. LB could use an upgrade. Mykolenko is a nice backup but in no way of starting quality. Maybe try to get Jorrel Hato from Ajax (if he would be interested).

I hope we use the loans for decent squad depth but invest our money for transfers in the starting eleven. Much better to develop your own talents then someone else's.

It would be nice to have a new pair of attacking fullbacks but I think with the limited resources we will have are they top of the list or is it creative midfielders. I think the team for 25/26 may not be much different to this years.
